I was visiting København in September. I absolutely need to talk about this great restaurant! I wanted to walk around the canals and find a quick meal before my flight back home to Chicago. I just looked at google maps and explored Christianshavn cause it looked pretty. I happened to come across Kanalen and was happy to see that they had a lunch special on their menu (in english for someone like me). The people working there were super friendly and welcoming! I can talk about the food for a long time because it was so delicious!!! I really wanted to give a big praise about the dessert because the plum and almond crumble tasted exactly like my favorite dessert my elderly neighbor used to make my family when I was a young little kid. This place truly spoiled me with its wonderful food and serene ambiance and I will absolutely visit again and hopefully being people with if I’m ever back in København!!!! (I apologize for the number of exclamation marks)

The tasteful interior design and modern ambiance build up high expectations of the food. In the end however, we left disappointed by the quality and quantity of the dishes. Specifically considering the very steep asking price. The restaurant does its best to sell you a fine dining experience, but we felt rather underwhelmed by it. While the food sure looks fancy, the seasoning was very unbalanced. Maybe we were unlucky, but half of our dishes ended up way too acidic. That is not something that should happen at a restaurant of this caliber. This opinion feels like going against the general consensus of a lot of other reviews you find about Kanalen, but what we experienced were Michelin star prices and portion sizes, but not Michelin star quality.

Restaurant Kanalen is quite a lovely intinate setting right along the beautiful kanals of Christianshavn 🌃🛥 The service was exceptional, with very knowledgable, entertaining and friendly waiters, and the food came quickly after it was ordered. Furthermore (and most importantly), the food was very delicious and surprisingly cheap, so this is definitely a place you can go both with family, friends, work or even for a date 🫶🙏 I would definitely recommend to order starters and snacks to share, atleast one of each, and then to take your main courses 1 by 1, since they are rather small and more specifically portioned to 1 person ❤️ Overall, thank you for a lovely experience and I will definitely be back someday.

Unless you’re on diet or you wanna waste your money, don’t eat there! I am not sure why this restaurant is recommended by @Michelin! Maybe just for the set up and location! Besides these 2 factors and the fair service, the food is disappointing!(just the truffle crisps were very good) The portions are ridiculously small, and there’s nothing outstanding to justify the prices! The appetizer is 2 grilles peppers! The Eggplant in the main dish is bigger than the fish The icecream in the dessert was already melt! It’s sad to finish a 3 course meal and still hungry! It’s good to know it’s Michelin recommended but doesn’t have the star.

This was a lovely place to have a fine dining dinner not too far from the Nyhavn canal area. It was a pleasant walk and an enjoyable meal. The servers were gracious and attentive and the food was excellently prepared. We had a croquette ‘escape’ our table and they were quick to replace it with another serving. The only thing I would have done differently is try some of their other drinks rather than wine. The wine we chose was good, but wine is no longer my first choice in Denmark. I would certainly recommend the short walk to this quiet corner of Denmark for a great meal.
