We visited The Royal Danish Playhouse during a cruise stop in Copenhagen and were immediately struck by the sheer size and bold design of the building—it’s impossible to miss if you’re exploring the main tourist spots nearby. Opened in 2008, the Playhouse is one of Copenhagen’s most modern architectural gems. The deep-brown brick façade paired with sleek stainless steel and floor-to-ceiling glass creates a bold contrast against the surrounding harbor. What makes this place especially memorable is how the structure juts out over the water, supported by Venetian-style crooked columns—an unexpected and beautiful detail that gives it a floating feel. Even if you don’t catch a performance inside, simply walking the wooden pier that wraps around the building is worth the stop, especially on a sunny day. It offers beautiful views of the water and nearby sights, and has a relaxed vibe with locals and tourists alike enjoying the area. This spot perfectly blends modern architecture with Copenhagen’s maritime atmosphere. Highly recommended if you appreciate design or just want a scenic walk in the city!

The Playhouse (Danish: Skuespilhuset) is a performing arts center located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the country's largest theater and home to the Royal Danish Theatre's drama company.

The Playhouse was designed by Danish architect Lundgaard & Tranberg and opened its doors in 2008. The building is situated on the waterfront, with stunning views of the harbor and the city skyline. Its modern design features a striking glass facade and a unique interior layout that creates a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding landscape.

The theater's main auditorium can seat up to 650 people and features state-of-the-art technology, including a hydraulic stage and advanced lighting and sound systems. In addition to the main stage, the Playhouse also has several smaller performance spaces and rehearsal rooms.

The theater's programming includes a mix of classic and contemporary plays, as well as dance performances, concerts, and other cultural events. The Royal Danish Theatre's drama company is based at the Playhouse and performs a variety of productions throughout the year.

In addition to its role as a cultural venue, the Playhouse is also a popular destination for visitors to Copenhagen. Its waterfront location, modern architecture, and cultural significance make it a must-see attraction for anyone interested in the arts and architecture.

Overall, the Playhouse is a world-class performing arts center and a symbol of Denmark's commitment to the arts...

The theater is amazing no doubt about it. The Aamann's restaurant however was insanely overpriced. We got 5 small shared dishes at roughly 700 dkk, and the wine list was poorly constructed, there should be a larger selection in the different price brackets especially the lower, I think they had 1 white wine sub 500, we went for a Burgundy at 565 which was unimpressive to say they least. The waiter also had no idea about which wines to pair with, which is understandable given the menu. After our 2 tables had spent close to 15000 dkk in 1 1/2 hours, we were asked to leave, because they needed the tables. Our show started 30 minutes later, and we just stood there waiting with our recently purchased glasses of wine, and in those 30 minutes, the waiters didn't even come and clear the tables, that they so desperately needed. The food however was pretty good, but portions were very small. I could easily have had the shared...
