Been to all of the Souls restaurants in Copenhagen many times, probably 20-30 times just the past year. Being a vegetarian and living near the Østerbro restaurant has made it a natural place to take our family and friends to. Not any more!
Last week, poor communication amongst the staff made them rudely ordering us (read: not kindly assisting) from one table to another. Anywhere they put us, another waiter would come and say we couldn’t sit there. We felt like a burden and decided to leave. Before leaving, I went to the waiter that spoke to us rudely and I simply said, ‘next time don’t order your guests, but help your guests’. To our big shock - in front of our kids and the other guests he became verbally aggressive with a hostile body language and started challenging my request to be polite to his guests. This waiter, who claimed to be the owner - even bigger shock - held the door open and threw us, incl. one baby and two kids (!!) out of the restaurant. I have never felt more humiliated and angry in my whole life. A simple sorry would have done it. Instead he created an unnecessary hostile environment.
According to his colleagues, the owner has been on a leave for a year, and just came back. That’s why we’ve never seen him. I have really tried to understand why he was so rude to us? Did he have a bad day, was it my beard and turban, did we do something wrong? I have no clue.
But one thing is for sure: when an owner throws out a family with 3 kids in anger, it is not safe for us or any other families with children to be there. My message to Souls is: don’t preach compassion, unless you can actually practice it. Compassion is not merely a...
Read moreThis is the absolute BEST RESTAURANT in the whole of Copenhagen. Regardless of your diet, vegan or carnivore or something completely different - they have food for everyone (also plenty of gluten free options!). I’ve been here plenty of times and for different occasions.
The food is just always on point. Presentation is pristine (the cakes are insane...), the tastes are consistently amazing and the range of options on the menu - everything from breakfast to cocktails to burgers, pizza, Ramen and salad - I mean what else could I possibly wish for?? The souls burger with fries and death by chocolate dessert are a must!!
Mornings and late afternoons are usually quiet and chill - you can bring a computer to work or a book to read or a friend to chat with. The vibe is chill and laid back. Mornings during the weekend and generally all evenings do tend to get quite busy - so this is where Souls will feel like a restaurant more than a cafe. Do book a table for evenings!!
Overall the vibe at Souls is very chill and aussie-like. The staff are super welcoming and bend over backwards to please their customers - they really are friendly and helpful - also to each other, which is so nice to see. The managers are also often around and are always up for a chat. Really just cool folks in there.
It’s just hands down an amazing experience. I really (really really really) recommend...
Read moreOn our visit to Torvehallerne, we sat near Souls. After half an hour, I decided to try one of their burgers because the staff working the grill just looked like they were truly enjoying themselves.
Spoiler: I’m so glad I did! I honestly had low expectations since I’m not vegan and usually gravitate toward the “real thing.” But this burger was honestly fantastic. The patty had a hearty bite, the seasoning and sauces packed a ton of flavor, and the whole burger just came together beautifully. What really surprised me, though, was how good I felt after eating it—satisfied but not weighed down, with no heavy, greasy feeling.
While sitting next to Souls, I watched more than a few people walk up, notice it was a vegan-specific menu, and then turn away for something else. Big mistake. I feel like if you’re reading this and you’re on the fence about vegan food (or just generally skeptical about “fake” burgers), you should give Souls a fair shot. This was easily one of the best burgers I had in Copenhagen—vegan, vegetarian, or otherwise. I’m still honestly surprised it was entirely plant-based because the amount of flavor and texture they’ve managed to build into that sandwich is wild.
Bottom line: don’t walk away just because it’s vegan. Highly...
