I loved my meal at Zahida. The interior is fantastically furnished, great lighting and table setup, cool pictures and art on the walls, and a memorable meal.
I ordered the standard (non-vegetarian) tasting menu that had four items. Small bites, mixed grill, butter chicken, and achari palak aloo, along with garlic naan and cumin rice. Both small bites were wonderful, and I especially enjoyed the gunpowder brocolli. The mixed grill items were tandoori chicken and lamp chops and they were arguably my favourite course in the meal. The meat was incredibly tender, and the spices and seasoning were perfectly to my taste. The butter chicken was fantastic, and the achari palak aloo was also quite delicious.
I did have a couple suggestions that I'd want the restaurant to at least consider. The garlic naan was unfortunately, by far, the worst part of the meal. First, it was served at the wrong time (it came with the mixed grill, but should have been served with the achari palak aloo, so it just sat there and got cold while I ate the mixed grill items). Second, it was quite bad. If real naan can't be made in that kitchen I would strongly consider changing the bread to a roti or roti-type of bread so that it also pairs better with the aloo dish. It's nearly impossible to eat the aloo as it is with the existing naan. It was a little odd to have a tasting menu that didn't finish with something sweet by default. Even if you have a small sweet bite as the last course that would suffice, but seemed silly to have dessert as an additional cost when someone ordered a tasting menu.
All in all, a memorable meal in a wonderful atmosphere and I...
Read moreGreat service. Very welcoming and nice staff. The place is small but cosy. I’m not a great fan of cauliflower but the small bites were very well marinated and the taste was very aromatic. The mixed grill was one of our favourite dishes. The lamb chops were delicious and so was the chicken. meat comes with a nice mint sauce. It is a bit more chilly than other dishes but still within European standards. The butter chicken was delicious, it had many flavours and seemed more elaborated than any other butter chicken I had tried. It resembles a bit more to kassala chicken. The naan bread was very nice and soft. And the rice contain some spices what makes a great combination when mixed with the main dishes. The potato/cauliflower was very boring to me, it could have had a more interesting sauce. The dessert are very overpriced given how small there is. The flavour was nice though but you can find great cardamom buns in Copenhagen more tasteful and cheaper in some bakeries. The drinks were good. Espresso Martini had an orange note. The best one is the Lassi, is very different to any other cocktail I have tried before and it goes very well with Indian food. The Zahida G&T was boring and really not surprising, it didn’t match my expectations based on the description on the menu. You have to put your credit card to book the table, which I personally think is unnecessary for this kind of restaurant. The location is very central so I expect they would get other customer otherwise. I would expect some people don’t book...
Read moreDefinitely learnt a lesson to not go by the reviews. We went there on Saturday and the only option they had was the tasting menu. From my experience eating at restaurants with a tasting menu, 1) There are more options 2) the same ingredients are not used again for another dish 3) plus includes a dessert 4) most of all every dish tastes good if not better
Also, the concept of charging surcharge if there is only one person is opting for a tasting menu is bizzare for such mediocre food.
We had two people for the non veg tasting menu and one person having the veggie/vegan menu. For two of the courses the dishes were the same for veggie and non-veg, so why charge extra?
Also, cauliflower seems to be cheap here and therefore was there on 2 of the dishes. In the Aloo Gobi curry the cauliflower florets were so huge that you could put them together. It tasted like any cheap take away.
The dish that we disliked the most was the pakora with apple sauce. The pakora had so much carom seeds (ajwain), couldn't get the taste out of the mouth. The dal was just boiled and served with Bombay mix and raw onions, like what?
Would like to add the only thing we actually liked was the lamb chops. Overall a very disappointing experience. Paid about 1500 krr and the food was probably just 25% eaten. The decor definitely needs to be updated and the seating was cramped.
The staff was...
