Nestled in the heart of Luxor, Sofra stands out as a culinary gem, offering a captivating journey into the rich tapestry of Egyptian flavors. From the moment you step through the doors, the beautiful tiles and authentic decor transport you to the heart of Egypt, setting the stage for a truly memorable experience. The attentive and knowledgeable staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making you feel like an honored guest in a friend's home. We especially thank Ragab for making us feel special. We indulged in the mezze platter, a delightful array of small dishes featuring classics like baba ganoush, hummus, and falafel. Each bite was a burst of freshness and flavor. We then had moussaka which was a delight after a long day exploring the beauties of Luxor. The chefs at Sofra take pride in using high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients, and it truly reflects in the taste and presentation of every dish. Sofra's commitment to authenticity extends beyond the menu to the restaurant's ambiance. The decor is a thoughtful blend of modern elegance and traditional elements, creating a space that is both inviting and culturally immersive. In conclusion, Sofra is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey through the heart of Egypt. The dedication to authenticity, the impeccable service, and the exquisite flavors make it a must-visit for anyone visiting Luxor.

Starting from the service angle, we were served by Ebrahim. He was a very warm and helpful person. Very nice demeanor. Food was EXCELLENT. We ordered the following items- Betingan Bil Tom (Baby aubergines pickled and stuffed with parsley, dill & garlic) as a starter; Mains were - Fatta Bil Moza (Lamb shank casserole with bread and rice mix flavoured with garlic & vinegar topped with yoghurt sauce), Batt Baladi Fi Alforn (Duck stuffed with Sofra filling). Food was excellent. The lamb was tender; and the duck was outstanding. The food came very fast. Very nice seating atmosphere - we sat on the roof terrace (you can also sit inside). OVerall decor is very rustic and meditarrenean. My wife & I would definately visit again- and have no hesitation to recommend this restaurant. Excellent value for food & service- for two of us we paid Egp. Pounds 270 plus tip. This also included juices and mineral water and french fries. (No alcohol served) (Only cash)

Sofra is a victim of its own success. It has potential to be great - but it’s way too popular (definitely make a reservation, many people were turned away) and the staff can’t keep up. The good: Staff were friendly, the restaurant set up is beautiful with antique furnishing, they have a wide variety of juices and the fresh lemon juice was yummy. Food wise, we enjoyed the baked lamb kofta - delicious, cooked perfectly so the meat wasn’t dry. The prices are really affordable and fair. The bad: - We were seated in a small room next to the entrance, which made us invisible to staff and it was really stuffy when the front desk guy closed the doors, we asked for it to be opened up to get some air conditioning from the bigger room. Unfortunately another Indian family was also seated in the room across us, as only the European guests were shown upstairs for seating. - The wait time. It took 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive and a total of 50 mins for our food - which was considered fast as we walked up to the front desk to ask to place our orders instead of waiting in the room. The Indian family waited 40 minutes to just place their orders. - Unfortunately they forgot my lemon juice order initially - The food was disappointing. The chicken tajin had chicken fried separately and placed on top of the stew instead of being cooked together. Perhaps they had no time - chicken was dry and the stew was tasteless. The fried prawns were a little salty and the rice was hard and tasteless as well. To be fair, the kind front waiter noticed we didn’t finish our food and asked for feedback. I showed him the dry chicken and he waived it off the bill. Perhaps the good reviews here are from tourists who haven’t tasted great Egyptian food - there’s way better restaurants such as Loqma and El Kebabgy. If the Sofra kitchen can’t keep up with the orders, close some of your rooms and limit the number of guests so the quality of food is good.

With such great reviews by so many sites and here in Google Review, expectations were high. Sadly, it's probably average at best. And in some areas, truly disappointed for such an upmarket pricing. Surprisingly quite empty when I came at about 5pm on Tuesday. Only 1 other table was occupied. Firstly, the server who took our order was extremely arrogant, claiming that all the dishes are very good when asked for recommendations. I though he was kidding but he was not saying this with a smile at all. Mentioned this several times without any help nor guiding us on how best we could make our choices. Even walked away and asked us to think about what we wanted. He disappeared thereafter. Worst service ever. Other servers are much better. The it was the food. Generally not too bad but definitely not up to the rave reviews. The lamb in lamb shank casserole is indeed tender, but I didn't like the flavoured rice. A bit too moist and the taste does blend well. Stuffed baby aubergine and bosara was just OK. The other main problem is the cleanliness. When you run your finger on the table or even the salt shaker, you can feel a layer of dust. This is definitely unacceptable for a restaurant at this price range. Don't the wipe their table after each customer? I certainly wouldn't recommend this place.

If I could give Sofra more than 5 stars I would! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You know a restaurant is going to be good when blocks away people ask if you are going there! We rocked up without a reservation first night. They kindly seated us in a downstairs room. The food was outstanding. My Chicken Tagen was excellent and the rice and milk pudding for dessert really tasty. The bill was amazingly good value given how well we had eaten. It was so good that we immediately booked for the next night. That got us a table upstairs on the terrace. This felt like the full Sofra experience. Insight of the kitchen and fearsomely hot charcoal barbecue. We all chose different dishes and all were exceptional again! 😋 The lamb shank and okra tagine was reported to be very very good. They were happy to make me an off menu version of the molekeye dish, which had been recommended by our local guide. Our advice is book a terrace table. You will love it!

By far the best meal we had in Luxor, we can't even begin describe how delicious everything was. You do have to walk a bit from the main area with the museums, but totally worth it. It has such an old world charm with it's unmatched chairs, padded benches and rustic lighting. It reminded me of an old world restaurant setting that would be in someone's house. It's exactly what we needed after a hectic day. Even the bathroom had charm. When we arrived it didn't look like anyone was there, but go ahead and walk in and go straight up the stairs. We arrived at 7pm and were only one of three tables. By the time we left, both floors were completely full! It's perfect for a couple or a large family, but you might need to make arrangements for a really large group. We saw a family of around 12 sitting comfortably. Also it's a cash only establishment.
