It’s in my nature to be positively expectant, And it’s quite a bit of an effort to give it up in the course of the dinner that we had reserved for 4. But I had to let it go, which was really unfortunate. I was really tuned for a memorable evening due to the food, service and ambience. It started with booking on site by a young gentleman, who was genuinely interested of us coming. He later welcomed us and helped us to attend (ticket 10€) the photo exhibition on 2 lower floors (Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen, Bruce Gilden and Elliot Erwitt. Last two being quite outstanding artists with extremly sensitive and fine touch). Returning to the restaurant on the sixth floor, passing through the lobby with some peculiar smell (that probably should not be there - jammed toilet sewage?), we felt not extremly welocome any more, as the service person had changed. We were showed to the table and got a short and a bit hasty introduction. Besides a la carte menu, there was Chefs’ picks of total 6 or 7 courses (don’t remember), but as explained to us, included 2 main courses per person from a la carte menu. A bit strange, but may be this was the strategy. And, if 1 person in the table wants to go for Chefs’ picks, everybody else must follow, i.e. everyone in the tabel, otherwise not possible. Still, our mood was running on high gear, so this intro did not bother us too much.We went for a la carte. Of the food (focaccia, beetroot, beef tataki, orsotto, lamb koftas) beetroot prepared in 3 different ways, was exquisite! The rest were good, not impressive, or even strange. But as this can be a matter of taste - let’s not judge. Weirdest to us was that focaccia was not delivered. When we asked, the waiter told us first that’s not his fault as the other people delivered food to us (what the ??). Then he returned and told us that as this was a very popular dish, they had run out of focaccia and just brought us some white bread. No apology… The ambience of the place was great though and we could really enjoy our night out when focussing on our own company of people. We will not be returning any time soon however and remain a bit puzzled about all the attention Michelin has given to the food and service of...
Read moreI’ll start from the story how jealous Lithuanian heard about green star from Michelin and decided to visit Tallinn to see that with his own eyes. And to taste definitely! The atmosphere of this district is incredible! Good start! Fotografiska is on the sixth floor, with a beautiful view to Tallinn towers and romantic trains 🚂. In Michelin guide was written, that it’s a green restaurant and it’s true - from interior to food - it’s green! But lets went to the food. Started from the very main thing - bread 🥖 as it always describes quality of the restaurant. And it was perfectly baked. As perfectly prepared was starter tomatoes (from their garden) with crispy bread crumbs and in mouth melting cheese. I asked the stuff to suggest me a white wine with the main course - trout with green radish paste, local steamed vegetables and seasonal mushrooms. They offered me chenin blanc grape from South Africa 🇿🇦 and a balance between food and wine was amazing! And last, but not least- dessert. Coffee and caramel was not too sweet, well balanced and a cup of espresso make the final note to this amazing dinner. I was lucky with the waitress and other stuff as well, they know where they working, and bringing most perfect attention to this place and their customers. Finalising - I was joking about jealous lithuanian - I proud of you neighbours for ruling the gastronomic world in...
