For the prices in this restaurant, you would expect to be overlooking the Eiffel tower in the middle of Paris, served by a sassy guy with a funky mustache called Pierre. Instead what you get is no atmosphere ( literally, because there is no air and its hard to breathe in the hot environment ), no music, lackluster service, oversalted or seriously bland foods. 13€ for 8 thin pieces of ravioli with sour cream is not a fair price to ask for a restaurant that is on the far corner of Telliskivi. Or 8.90€ for a cheese plate, that consists of 4 tiny pieces of bread, and a few thin slices of cheese that would even leave a small sized mouse asking for more. Really dissapointed, because the service and the food do not justify the expense. I suppose, fool me once, shame on me, right...
Also, to top it off, the restaurant have not really invested into the website ( pay your WIX subscription lol ), which is the first point of contact for new costumers. Makes it look really unprofessional to have a floating WIX banner on the menu page and kinda gives a premonition for the whole experience ahead.
The salads were missing key ingredients advertised on the menu (that we weren’t informed of before the salads arrived) and a lot of the other menu items were sold out during the middle of the week, leaving us with very little options for food.
If anything, this is a public money-grab, not a serious restaurant with integrity. The experience was only enjoyable because we were together with friends who were able to find the humour in this situation.
1/10, would not reccomend. There are a lot of beautiful, good price to quality restaurants around Telliskivi area, go elsewhere if you want to enjoy a good meal or a lovely...
Read moreTL;DR: waitress attempted to gaslight her clients after failing with confirmation of the food is lactose free or not. Her argument: I understood you differently because your Estonian was not good enough.
Situation: Ordered beef tournedos (I recommend). Before placing the order my wife with certified B2 level commandment in Estonian asked her in Estonian if the dish is lactose free. Me with my A2 was clear what she asked. The answer was also clear: the dish is lactose free.
To our surprise the dish contained a piece of butter on top. We swiftly removed it so it shouldn’t make big difference to the stomach. Second mistake, she managed to forgot in dish from the order. Fine, happens, but we had to leave and I asked the check from another person and expressed my willing to have more educated person elk on what inside dishes.
However at the end, when we’re about to leave our first waitress came to us and started explaining that it’s not her fault because even if we asked about lactose free dish she understood us as gluten free. Which in Estonian are completely identical words: Gluteenivaba and Lactoosivaba, right?
If you love made mistake - fine, just admit it, say sorry. Enough. Conflict resolved. But no, attempt to gaslight two grownups that they can’t articulate complex questions in Estonian was what flipped me off.
Good luck with such attitude.
Recommendations to visitors: Do not even try to be nice and speak Estonian here, just switch to English. At least it will make harder for them to gaslight you after. Ask to write your order on a piece of paper Ask to recite the order right after you’re done...
Read moreI’ve lived near Frenchy for 5 years now, so I know the local restaurants well. Frency is without a doubt my top recommendation of choice, due to exceptional food, service, atmosphere and accessibility.
FOOD: All the ingredients are well-picked and masterfully cooked (as can be expected). What sets Frenchy apart, in my opinion, is the sauces and other flavourings that are used elegantly and judiciously. These flavours transport me to another reality (alpine France in my case), making the food pleasurably delightful. Furthermore, I’ve been really impressed by the quality of the meat, the selection of French cheeses, and some of the most mouth-watering lunch specials that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE: Fast, warm, fully of smiles, considerate, responsive and genuine - What more could you ask for? I think this place manages to succeed here exceptionally well, as it’s a family-run place headed by a lovely French-Estonian couple who can often be seen on site.
ACCESSIBILITY: Frenchy is family-friendly and dog-friendly, meaning that no-one from my house needs to be left behind.
ALTOGETHER, Frenchy is a true gem in Tallinn. It doesn’t imitate anything, everything it does works and so the place feels like a unique and cohesive whole. This makes it incomparable to anything else in Tallinn, and a must try for anyone seeking exceptional culinary...
