The venue is great - a big hall with solid tables and chairs. Romet, who served us, was fantastic - super-friendly and helpful.
The beers were superb and well worth the short walk from the old town, with a huge selection of bottled and tap beers.
The food was not so great. Starters were frozen, deep-fried things from catering packs. When the squid and onion rings taste the same, it's not a good sign. The mains were a little better, but if you've ever eaten at a Hungry Horse pub in the UK, you'll get an idea of the general quality of ingredients and cooking. Ribs, for example, weren't a rack but 3 or 4 separate slightly larger individual ribs, deep-fried until they were on the verge of dry with a ramekin of generic BBQ sauce on the side. Half-eaten but finished plates were scooped off the table without any question as to if the food was OK or why a lot of it was left.
The main annoyance was the mains were brought to the table as we finished the last mouthful of starters - barely time to breathe or chat or simply take our time.
We'd recommend this place for the beer and the service but wouldn't order any...
Read moreAlthough I personally do not drink beer for very personal and religious reasons (I don't like it) I was surrounded by a group of people that did in fact find this fermented wheat&barley beverage quite alluring, and so they consumed quite a large number of them in rapid succession.
This inevitably led them to develop a serious hangover the next morning, or, as it is locally known, the "Latvian nightcap".
One of them reported that it was akin to being rapidly bashed in the head with a guitar made out of polished ebony. Another said "ouch".
All in all it was a pleasant experience, apart from when I learned that you are not supposed to eat the bones of pork ribs, which immediately made my pork ribs experience much much more comfortable. It turns out I actually do like pork ribs! I just don't like bones.
I recommend this place if you like beer and/or pork ribs. Or if you don't. I just strongly...
Read moreHorrible staff. When we walked in they gave us dirty looks. When we were done ordering they gave us the wrong order. We were sitting outside and then one of the staff came to us telling that they didnt bill us for one drink and made us feel like it was our fault that they forgot. And when we told about the wrong order they said ”too bad”. Ofc we paid for the drink what they forgot to bill us but after we paid we saw that they made us pay 1€ more then what we shouldve had paid! They were talking bad about us just because that they made the mistake not us. They were rude to us with out a reason. The drinks were watery and didnt taste good. I will never come back again because the staff was just...
