Osteria Moderna Itaalia Restoran — Restaurant in Tallinn

Horrible! We had booked a table for 6 and were seated promptly. The restaurant was pretty empty but the roc-n-roll music was extremely loud (and did not create a cozy Italian atmosphere).

Service was quite slow. Food arrived very late. The main courses arrived more then an hour after ordering. Food was quite average. Only tasty thing was Foccacia bread starter. Antipasti platter was very odd, not what I would expect to get at an Italian restaurant (artichokes, olives, cheeses, prosciutto, grapes and tomatoes and such) this one had a huge pile of pickles and pickled cauliflower- which in my opinion are more suited with a vodka shot then an Italian experience. There were still cheeses, prosciutto and roasted capsicum, so not a complete failure but still not good either. At the end of the evening the waiter needed to redo the bill 3 times because he had added dishes from two separate tables...

However, we were very disappointed with how the food was prepared — both the pasta and pizza were poorly cooked and did not meet our expectations, especially considering the price we paid.

Unfortunately, the experience was not satisfying, and we wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending it to others. We believe a partial refund or some form of compensation would be fair.

One of those hidden gems in Tallinn where you can enjoy truly authentic Italian food.

We started with the arancini—perfectly crispy on the outside, with a flavor that hit all the right notes. Then came the primo and secondo dishes: the pasta was cooked al dente, with a beautifully balanced flavor profile, and the oxtail was so tender it melted in my mouth.

Dessert didn’t disappoint either. The poppy seed roll was just sweet enough, packed with generous filling, and the lemon tart—finally, one where you can actually taste the lemon!

Also worth noting: the place is LGBTQ+ friendly and the staff are genuinely warm and welcoming. All in all, it left me with a strong feeling I’ll be...
