Whisper Sister — Restaurant in Tallinn

I don't often review badly, but this place needs a reality check. As a 58 yr old man, I've been in many, many cocktail bars around the world. This ISN'T a true cocktail bar. It isn't a speakeasy, either. Firstly, a speakeasy that accepts automated online bookings with no door policy!? No, that's a glorified TGI Friday. A lot of theatre, calling a secret number to get let in? Well, let's forgive that. Anyone can get in if they make a booking online. The cocktails however? Unforgivable. What cocktail bar IN THE WORLD can't make a cosmopolitan? "We don't have cranberry" is pitiful as an excuse. Also, and this is the worst aspect, all their "signature cocktails" are PRE MIXED!!! They are literally in plastic "ketchup" style squeezy bottles hidden under the bar. You can see them in the mirror behind the bar. They are cloying, overly sweet, cough medicine creations poured directly from a pre-mix bottle. Yes, there is some ridiculous "theatre" of high pours, ice shaking and so on, but literally not one bottle was taken from the three tier shelves of spirits during the hour we sat at the bar. We ordered two drinks each, 4 different cocktails. The cocktail shaker wasn't used once. The staff are good, kind, friendly, it's not their fault. But whoever is gouging money from patrons for premixed cough mixture needs to sell this place to a real cocktail bar enthusiast. The place is formulaic, tired, explotative, and frankly something of a fraud. Go to some of the real speakeasy bars above 120th street in New York and you will see the difference. The best cocktail bar in the whole of Tallinn and far beyond. The drink menu is built with in-house created drinks by very skilled and experienced staff but it's also possible to ask for almost anything and everything. You will find the menu changed a few times throughout the year so every visit of yours will be unique. That will be also thanks to the amazing warm welcoming approach of the staff. You will notice the amazing approach from the very first moment when you will get picked up by one of the team members outside, followed by a small tour of the bar. If you don't know which drink should you go with, that's where the knowledgeable staff will assist you to choose the perfect fit for your taste buds. As per my experience, Whisper Sister is undoubtedly the best cocktail bar in Tallinn/Estonia, maybe even in the Baltics.

The entrance to the bar is via a door which has a phone number written on it (very small size near the door key hole). You have to call the number for someone to come out and open the door. Once inside you are led down to the fantastic speakeasy bar. There are multiple rooms in the bar where you can choose to sit in.

Ordered 4 cocktails, and each one of them was absolutely fantastic. My favourite cocktail was the Kuro Dragon and I would strongly recommend trying this. Among the other drinks I ordered, the “Prayer to Mayahuel” was a nice easy cocktail, and the “Velvet Bond” was a fabulous sprit forward cocktail.

Service was brilliant. I did not have a reservation but was able to get a bar counter seat immediately as I walked in. But I visited on a weekday where crowds might be low. Maybe it’s best to do a reservation.

All in all, this bar is a must visit if you’re in Tallinn. 100% the best cocktail...
