Overall this restaurant had great value for money in Helsinki at only 16.9 euros per person for dinner. The restaurant is situated in a nice street in helenski pretty close public transport. The restaurant itself has a intimate yet confortable environment, which we felt was pretty fitting for the food, however the walkways can get a bit congested if it gets relatively packed. When we went in we were instantly greeted by the staff whom probably wasn't Japanese(?) and was asked to pay for the buffet, however afterwards we were pretty lost in trying to find a suitable seat. All the food was self serve with sushi on the table and the drinks and dessert across the counter.
We went for the miso soup first, and whilst it still had miso flavour we felt like it was pretty watered down.
Moving on to the sushi, we skipped most of the rolls as there was bell peppers(?) in some of them and moved straight into the salmon nigiri. The salmon was good and fresh, however the rice was way too compressed. It did not taste handmade as they were moulded into squares and extremely tight and dense with very little balance in the vinegar and seasoning. I would not recommend purchasing a rice rolling machine.
And as seen in the pictures the salmon was drowning in the wasabi(?), a great metaphor for the dichotomy of consumerism and sustainability. Highlighting the photographers view that finding a balance mass population and preservation of nature, is only going to lead to a tragedy of both worlds.
The fire charred salmon was even better, as the flame added a nice depth of flavour but had the same problem with the rice.
Moving on to the final course, the dessert, there was this cream puff and blueberry cake was pretty decent considering its pre-packaged dessert. However we found that the matcha ice cream was very spicy(?).
As for the drinks, there was a pretty good selection from tea and coffee to soft drinks just like coke and sprite, which were pretty good. It's been a while since I've had sugar in coke.
In conclusion, this restaurant does not deserve any Michelin stars, but does provide great...
Read moreSeems to be one of the secret spots of the city. The restaurant was crowded when we arrived. Sometimes it was hard to get pass the people and tables to get to the buffet. A buffet of various sushi including a lot of salmon but also tuna and some other fish in different varieties and some starters and salads as well. Amazing marinated beef strips! (maybe a slight vietnamese touch?) Many of the sushi types were topped with the same sauces (mayo and teriyaki i guess) which unfortunately made a lot of the different sushi items taste very similar and sometimes overpowered the taste of the fish. Which i found very astonishing was that in the already very good price of about 16€ for the buffet, drinks were also included!! So far i saw it included tab water, softs and coffe! So all in all definitely a very tasty experience with a good...
Read more11,90 for lunch sushi buffet, which is a great deal considering that the sushi is well made. 15,90 Weekends/Evenings. Tasty food but hygiëne needs to be improved. The chairs need also to be padded.
THE GOOD I loved few simple sushi types, the mint flavored water was a nice surprise and the staff was friendly. You can get free soft drinks, these I don't drink personally but it is anyway a plus point. The kitchen is open and visible, that's definitely positive.
THE BAD Noisy chairs without padding. The staff working with food has loose hair and this is not hygienic at all. Many sushi types have too much sauces. The floor of the place is not in best conditions.
BOTTOM LINE Good sushi, even though there is not much except sushi you still can enjoy a great meal. If the hygiëne could be improved I...
