The idea of being able to eat as many cakes as I wanted attracted me to Kakkugalleria, as it offers a cake buffet for 12 euros. However, when I arrived there I noticed that the cakes offered in the buffet were mostly the typical mousse cakes that you can find in the supermarket. Thus, I chose to try one of their individual cakes instead. I order a mango-passion fruit mousse. The cake consisted of a plain biscuit, a mango mousse, and a passion fruit (?) gelatin center , and it was decorated with a mango mirror glaze, a slice of lime, and a quarter of a strawberry. The mousse had a nice mango flavour, although too sweet, but I was never able to taste the passion fruit. One of my friends ordered the buffet. So, breaking the rules I stole tiny bits from her cakes to taste them. I was right, the cakes were very commercial and too sweet. The only exception was the chocolate cake which had a deep chocolate flavour and a rich texture. In conclusion, unless you plan to eat six slices of chocolate cake in a row (I have yet to met someone who can eat more than 6 slices at this place), or you do not have high standards for cakes as I have, then don't go for the buffet. Coffee is OK but...
Read moreIâve been a loyal customer of kakkugalleria for many years, always coming back for their delicious cakes. However, on my birthday, I was extremely disappointed to find out that they no longer accept cash payments â a detail that wasnât mentioned on their website. I only discovered this once I arrived at the cafĂ©, leaving me without the cake I had been looking forward to on my special day. The staff suggested I visit a nearby kakkugalleria(Frederinkatu) cafĂ© where they thought cash was accepted, but to my surprise, they had the same policy â no cash payments. On top of that, the cake portions there were cut noticeably thinner, almost half the size of what Iâve been used to at kakkugalleria(Bulevardi). This was a major disappointment, especially after years of enjoying their products. I canât help but wonder if it's legal in Finland for businesses to refuse cash payments. Shouldn't customers be informed in advance about such policies? After such a "gift" all that remains is to forget about this cafe and...
Read moreOnce/ twice a year indulge yourself in cake buffet. The price including a cup of tea/coffee is 14,50âŹ. Or alternatively you can buy two pieces of cake for 5,10⏠(excl. drink).
If you buy buffet, you can select 3 pieces at a time, once finished, you come to the counter for the next 3 pieces. They serve each round on a new plate. If you eat 6 cake pieces, you'll already make it worth the buffet price. Definitely recommend if you are a sweet tooth đ because you can try so many different cake tastes.
My favourite are lakritsimacaroni, sitruunamerenki, vadelmakermakakku, marmorisuklaa, vege-vadelma-vanilja (the last 3 were a recommendation by an employee, and she was right, delicious cakes)
The tiny minus: a strawberry on the top of the vege cake was spoiled and had mold on it (I informed them), which I noticed after taking a bite unfortunately.
Also I ran out of charge on my phone and they lent me a charger.
Overall super pleasant cafe experience: good value for money, friendly employees, delicious...
