Restaurant Kaow Thip — Restaurant in Helsinki sub-region

I ate there yesterday and the service was poor, loud not at all customer oriented.. the server was yelling and laughing in the back very loudly. We ordered a papaya salad to start with and I said less spicy please and it came out extra extra spicy hot, and the salad was therefore completely inedible. I like spicy but I would still like to actually taste the food. It felt like a prank to us. It felt like I was eating chili from a spoon. After I said excuse me this is way too hot for us, the server gave us a full on lecture to say no spicy at all-next time even though I had said less spicy clearly. I have visited Thailand 5x and never had this type of case where the chili was the main focus of the food if I say less spicy. The green curry with chicken was runny and watery, not tasty at all. And the sweet and sour tofu dish was quite tasteless without any sauce, seemed under cooked. I'm truly in shock of how can this place get over 4 stars in general here when the food quality and taste was under par. Our drinks Pepsi Max were fine. The Restaurant itself was cold inside with a draft and with no music in the background. The personnel were yelling and laughing in the background loudly and the atmosphere inside was non existent. I never write in these reviews but this place needs a makeover with everything. I'm not sure was the server we had the owner lady (short hair) but I hope this feedback is taken as a wake up call to change it all for the better. There is maybe slight potential, not convinced, but all the 3 dishes we ordered were a flop and the way the server spoke to us was rude. I cannot recommend this place at all....

One of the best, modest and friendly thai restaurants in Helsinki. Lunch always includes soup, main dish and fruits for desert. A la carte is very variable and well served. This place is perfect for vegans and vegetarians and almost any dish has it's vegetarian alternative. There's always plenty of vegetables in the dishes and they are fresh. All curries are handmade there by the cook, the balance of saltiness, sweetness and spiciness is usually good. Staff is very friendly, though there might be some language issues sometimes. And I also think that the price-quality balance is one of the most fair once in Helsinki. I often eat there as my work place is close. Good lunch options at reasonable price. Lunch menu includes a main dish, salad bar, a hot soup and tea/coffee with biscuits. It seems they keep the same lunch menu for the entire week for several years. There are fresh vegetarian spring rolls at the salad bar, which are well wrapped and taste better than the ones I tried at other Asian restaurants.
