Founder's Arms — Restaurant in London

Our group of four had high hopes for our dining experience at this establishment, particularly drawn by its stunning view overlooking the River Thames. However, regrettably, our visit left us thoroughly disappointed.

While London is renowned for its exceptional customer care and services, the level of service we encountered at this venue fell shockingly short. As frequent diners in the city, we found the customer service here to be a far cry from the standards we've come to expect.

Upon ordering a £40 bottle of Pinot Noir, we were dismayed by both the quality and presentation. The wine, in our estimation, fell far short of its price point, leading us to question its true value. What's more, the manner in which it was served lacked finesse; the server simply deposited the bottle and glasses onto our table without offering us the customary tasting opportunity.

To compound matters, the glasses provided were visibly stained, unwashed, and adorned with lipstick marks. Despite our request for replacements, the ensuing exchange with the staff was less than satisfactory. Witnessing their bickering and observing the glasses being hastily wiped down with tissue only added to our disappointment.

In seeking to address our concerns, I politely requested to speak with the manager on duty, only to be informed that the very person attending to our table held that role. Such a revelation was disheartening, further underscoring the disconnect between expectation and reality.

It's truly disheartening to witness a venue with such immense potential, boasting a prime location, breathtaking views, and expansive indoor-outdoor spaces, fall short in the crucial aspect of service delivery. This is a review of my Sunday roast experience. I have been to many Restaurants and Pubs for Sunday roast and to be honest this is the worst one from all of them. It is overall a nice place with nice staff members and good drinks, but it looks like that Sunday roast here is just an afterthought. Why? Well look at the photo I posted. Our table had Roast Beef £19 and Roast Chicken £18. I won’t brag about dry and tasteless chicken as this has become standard and only few restaurants can prepare nice roast chicken. But the beef is supposed to be Striploin, however what I was given looked like leftovers you would only use to prepare gravy, super overcooked and chewy (seriously head chef of this place should google: Sunday Roast striploin). Then the potatoes were undercooked with no taste at all. I’m not gonna even talk about veg because that has nothing to do with roast - looks like frozen veg quickly boiled without any taste. Gravy - uhm was this even gravy? Same color, different texture and different taste. Only good thing on the plate was Yorkshire puddings. I was first thinking that Restaurant has run out of food and they just cut the slack on my order, but I saw other tables having exactly the same plate as I had. I’m giving it 3 stars, as I said good atmosphere and nice staff members with good drinks. Whilst we had to wait 50 minutes for our food, waitress was very nice, kept updating us and gave us free deserts - this can happen anywhere. Just along the River Thames, situated just between the Blackfriar bridge and the state Modern is a lovely little riverfront pub called Founders Arms.

On our trip to London we wanted to experience a full English breakfast, and Founders offered just that. There are other breakfast options, but the menu is not overly extensive.

The breakfast was slightly pricey, but the meal more than makes up with it in size. The plate included 2 Cumberland sausages, grilled tomatoes, 2 fried eggs, a couple slices of smoked bacon, roasted mushroom, a blood pudding patty, 2 hash brown rounds, baked beans, and a couple slices of toast. It's a lot of food for even the hungriest of patrons. The flavors were lovely and worked really well together. Definitely spread the provided butter on the toast, it is delicious. The fried egg was less runny than I expected, but it was still delicious.

Some tips:

This pub doesn't open until 10am, so, if you are an early riser maybe consider grabbing coffee first at one of the lovely coffee shops either in Waterloo, the Burough Market Area, or the a small yet tasty shop near founders called FCB. You can explore the Thames as you wait for founders to open. Also, request a table either on the patio or inside along the windows so you can take in the breathtaking view of the Thames and the City of London. The Fully English breakfast is big, and if you're not especially hungry or maybe you're not much of a breakfast person, I would share this plate with others so everyone can taste all the components without getting overly "filled" on...
