Restaurant Le Chamois d'Or — Restaurant in Albertville

We stayed at the Chamois d'Or residence for a week and booked half-board at the restaurant. The manager of the restaurant is the 2022 reboot of Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers. Full of good intentions, but rude, arrogant and with the fakest smile you will ever see. My wife is a vegetarian. We specifically mentioned this to them before booking the half-board for a full week. On the first evening, the manager looked at my wife in disgust, saying “a vegetarian, ugh, so annoying… We only serve veggie pizza, pasta or salad. So shall I make you a salad?” After some reflection in the next days, she invented the veggie omelet. Imagine that! To her surprise the “Fondue Savoyarde” on their menu is also suited for vegetarians. What a surprise! They apparently never figured out raclette can be served as a veggie dish too. After a week we can say this: the food is hit or miss: good pizzas, good steaks, nice fondue, very basic salads, horrible pastas, terrible fries. Whatever you do, avoid the house wine at all costs. What they serve is an insult to France as a wine nation. Staff is overworked and mostly uninterested. Kudos to Norbert for providing us with a great breakfast every morning. At least that was ok. I visited the restaurant with a group of friends for dinner, hoping for a pleasant evening. However, what transpired was far from satisfactory.

Upon ordering, I selected a burger from the menu, only to be served an entirely different and incorrect burger. When I politely brought this to the attention of our waitress, instead of addressing the mistake professionally, she responded with blatant disrespect. Not only did she shush me and tap me on the head in a condescending manner, but she also proceeded to make a mockery of the situation in front of my companions.

Despite her unprofessional behavior, I gave the benefit of the doubt and requested the correct burger I had originally ordered. While the replacement burger was satisfactory, the waitress's behavior continued to deteriorate throughout the meal. She repeatedly approached our table, laughing at me and attempting to embarrass me further, alluding to the earlier incident. Additionally, she made derogatory remarks in French and proceeded to squeeze my shoulders and tap my head.

We’ve come here quite a few times. The food is always delicious, especially for the price, and the lady who seems to be in charge is always extremely helpful and nice. However, on our most recent visit the male staff members were quite abrupt and unwelcoming. They made us do most of their work - asking us to pass down cutlery, drinks, and plates of food quite rudely (when it was extremely easy and accessible for them to do so themselves). Also, when we asked to order from one of the waiters, he said he doesn’t take orders (which is fair enough). But, he said it very rudely and did not seek to get his colleague who could take orders. This was all on a relatively quiet lunch sitting as we were there late. The final thing is that the music is very unpleasant and grating. This isn’t just a personal taste issue, it is far too loud and bad covers of songs all by the same singer.
