Its sad how bad this experience was, and how does the response of the owner in real time correlate with the responses to other negative reviews here. Very defensive, no attempt to receive feedback. Gets aggressive instead.
But lets start with food. Things we liked: tripe sausage and sausage in brioche. Wine sauce was good. Notice that neither of these things are made in-house.
Things we didn’t like: boef bourginion - meat was as dry as drywall, potatoes bland. Duck l’orange - way to sweet even for my American palate. We poked at the beef and sent the duck back. Asked for the tripe sausage instead.
Things escalated quickly. I explained i just want another entree cause i am hungry. He don’t have to take it off the bill, just bring me the tripe. 30 mins later, he throws the plate in front of me with some ‘tude “do you even know what this is?”. Yeah, your mustache didn’t invent tripe, we eat it around the world, don’t get smug at me for eating organ meat its delicious.
Enter check time. He insists that the caramel sauce was too sweet for my taste, really going out of his way to point that he is right. “Thousands of people like this food”. Seriously, could have just said nothing, but chose to keep insisting the food is perfect, started shouting. Ruined my evening. Scared the tourists.
Anyway- please fix your kitchen and your attitude. Not...
Read moreUnderwhelming. The ambiance is off, tables are very close together, sever wasn't super welcoming when we arrived, cold inside, but let's face we were there for food. My son had onion soup and my husband had soup with egg. The soups were good but one was too salty and one was lacking salt. Both kids ordered coq the vin and were surprised it came out in one pot. It seemed like a small pot for two but fine. This dish is a very traditional french dish and they completely missed the mark - undercooked potatoes, flavorless carrots, bland and unseasoned broth (just felt like cooked wine), and very dry chicken. We did tell waitress and she said it was the piece of chicken we got. We got two orders of coq vin, we didn't order parts. I had the pike fish and it was good but not quite fish, was more like fish mixed with something to make the dish. Wine options were great and reasonable prices. My kids ordered sirop drink which was advertised as $2 Euro, we asked if we could get club soda with it instead of regular flat water. She said yes and than added $4 euro to each order making drinks $6 vs $2, not cool. This is our 4 night eating in Chamonix and we liked this place the least. I don't understand all the...
Read moreWe were looking for a cozy spot with more of a peaceful atmosphere than the bar/brasserie places that line the main pedestrian zone in Chamonix. Jeanie’s is a small, homey place with perhaps 8-10 tables. The theme and decor of the restaurant suggest that it is owned and run by one family. The menu is not extensive, but it’s creative and offers good variety. We ordered the fried artichoke hearts with hazelnut sauce as our starter followed by the beef bourguignon and the quenelle de brochet. All three were delicious, especially the quenelle. The server was very busy, as she was managing between 4 and 7 tables on her own with no busser, bartender or hostess to help. She did an excellent job, even managing to not seem rushed when chatting warmly with us or other patrons. Another reviewer said the desserts were too sweet and too big. I couldn’t disagree more. By American taste bud standards, these desserts were modest in size and not at all too sweet! It’s funny because my husband and I both enjoyed our desserts more precisely for this reason. To me, this restaurant felt very authentic. I highly...
