My experience was quite interesting but please correct me if I mis-understood (By the way I speak French).
Honestly it's a restaurant with an amazing wine collection and casual decoration which I love. I ordered a glass of red wine but unfortunately there were a huge amount of sediment at the bottom. It seemed that they pourred everthing out of the bottle without filtering the unpleasent stuff.
While paying, I told the waiter that "Everything was nice but it was a shame that there were sediments in my wine so it tasted unpleasant." Bizarrely he just replied me "Ah!" without saying any explanation. Then he took my payment in cash and walked away. I didn't say that he could keep the change but he just assumed that he didn't need to give ma back the change. I waited for 5 minutes until I was pretty sure that he was not coming back to explain or give me back my change. I was in holidays so I didn't want to waste my time on them anymore. So I gave up and left withouth complaining anything to them.
I don't feel angry because I would never waste my energy on this small thing. But it was indeed an experience just like the sediment of wine. It doesn't jurt but...
Read moreLooking for fondue? This is NOT the place to go. 1 star for fondue (considering the price)
Avoid the fondue—it's a complete letdown. They claim to offer the best fondue, but that's far from reality.
Paying 78 euros for two people only to get an average-tasting fondue, served cold, with frozen mushrooms (cèpes) is unacceptable. You can find much better quality for 50 euros elsewhere.
The kitchen seems inexperienced, and the waitstaff—motivated students—are clearly overwhelmed. I genuinely feel bad for them, thanks anyway for your good service and care.
The setting is pleasant, yes.
We didn't try the rest of the menu; the experience with the fondue was more than...
Read moreLovely place, not on the pedestrian area but just a couple of blocks away. I like the decor, it’s warm and cozy and all made of wood. They also have some art made from the pieces of the plane that crashed here in 1950.. Interesting bit of history.
The leak (pruneau) with cheese were EXCELLENT..we had a cheese fondue; it’s delicious though very heavy (obviously) and comes with 2 small green salads and a platter of ham and sausage.. Now the food is tasty but I don’t understand how a fondue for 2 can be charged 70 plus dollars; it’s a lot but this is the price of fondue everywhere in Chamonix..
Service is correct and polite.
