Quite possibly the most miserable café owner I have ever met! I'd driven friends to Chamonix to ski for the day and needed to do some work whilst waiting. Seen this cafe on a previous visit and the recommended (and my first choice) Galerie Cafe des Aiguilles (WAY better option) was shut so I thought I'd try it. DISASTER! Was mid morning when I arrived, asked for a green tea, the (I presume owner, older lady), put a glass mug of hot water on the counter and said the tea was in the box, I couldn't see it straight off and said sorry what box. That box, pointing at it! I work in (french, so speak the language) hospitality and was conscious of the fact I would be working in her café (something I know is commonplace these days, so would be happy to purchase drinks etc, also if the place got busy I would have left to avoid taking up space) I sat out of the way at a small bar, got on with my work quietly, she then came and told me I wasn't allowed to stay over lunch (fair comment) It was only ever half full, there was no lunch rush, so I went to buy another drink. I was told I wasn't allowed to buy one. It was food only at that point. I starting packing up to leave and she came over and asked if I wanted to buy lunch, I said no and got told it was a café not an office (again fair point, but the place was still half empty ) I went to Artic Juice and Coffee, who were welcoming and friendly, had proper FRESH mint tea, lovely lunch and didn't mind me working there! Astonished she is still in business as there are other vegetarian, fresh food places in Chamonix where you don't get served by someone with a face like they've been sucking on a lemon (which is the polite way of saying what I actually...
Read moreOne of my most uncomfortable experiences. I asked for vegetable milk to my coffee, and she gave me almond milk. But it was a almond and hazelnut milk and I'm very allergic as I precise to her. I end up with a allergy reaction, have no medicine with me and run to the kitchen to ask for lemon as it helps . The woman says she doesn't have lemon, she looks around a bit and ask her colleague saying there's no lemon... I look at the juice menu and point out that it is written they have fresh juice with carrot and lemon. Woman says no we didn't get delivered. Doesn't care at all, and in standing there about to have a hard time to breath(!). I run out to go to nearest other restaurant and a very friendly woman give me fresh squeezed lemon juice (the best remedy if you don't have medicine to calm down the histamine, blueberry also works good). I thank her and go back, where my friends just saw they had plenty of lemon juice on bottles in the store..... But the woman said they had no lemon in bottles or fresh. Basically she doesn't care if a customer , is having a serious allergy shock at her place. For me that is very hard to imagine and understand that you are not interested or doesn't care to help? I was very lucky I didn't drink a lot of that hazelnut milk. I'm very lucky the neighbor restaurant was nice and that the 6 fresh squeezed lemons I drank helped me cool down. I hope this woman will find her happiness in life so she can stop treating customers like if they where a pain for...
Read moreIt gives me no pleasure to leave this review after previously giving this restaurant 5 stars. I live locally and visited this place probably 30+ times. Here are the problems:
It seems like no matter how often or what time you visit, the owners are always rushing you out the door. They will begin reminding you that they are closing sometimes over an hour before actual closing time. This is a baffling business strategy and does not encourage you to feel welcome or comfortable. Always a sense that they want you to leave quickly, even when they are friendly on the surface.
Food portions are laughably small for the price and the fact everything is premade and in cartons. If you are vegetarian, good luck with protein. They include two tiny strips of tofu that probably cost them 20 cents, add a bit of rice, and charge you 15 euros.
They charge more than nearby cafes for coffee, yet the espresso is from a keurig cup instant coffee type machine.
Their parents, who also work here, are incredibly lovely, as are the location and design of the place. It's a shame they opt to charge a lot for a little and are so intent on closing and running out of the store all the time. This could have been the best spot...
