As a British Pakistani, who loves Pakistani food - I was pretty disappointed. Obviously the food is catering more to the French palate, which basically isn’t very accustomed to spices. The worst thing about this restaurant is the service!! It was terrible. My children and I were made to feel like we really weren’t welcome. It isn’t a family friendly place as they don’t even have high chairs for children.
I ordered a lamb biriyani and it was mediocre. The poppadoms were extremely greasy. The onion bhajis were greasy onion rings. The mixed grill platter was basically a tray of overcooked dry meat. The naan was okay but they failed to actually cook the garlic so it was super overpowering. The chicken tikkas were okay. Also, I have never tasted a banana chutney and prefer not to again.
The decor is tacky personally, except for the authentic French stone building, it’s just there to please the people who actually know nothing about Pakistani/Indian heritage which seem to be the majority of French people.
Will never visit again.
Wanted to reply to the owner : Well, I’m British (Pakistani) and my husband is French (100%) so if you claim to be catering to the French people, he absolutely despised the food, perhaps more than me.
We could even put the food aside if you perhaps served us with some level of customer service, but we weren’t even greeted when we came in. The man who served us looked like he had been smoking something strong during his breaks and the manager failed to make us feel welcome.
Please take this review on board in order to improve. People are paying good money to eat at your restaurant, and would like to be served and treated with good customer service - you know, perhaps a smile?? And cater to the families with children, provide highchairs for...
Read moreThe most grotesque and unpleasant experience I have had in a restaurant. We were 4 people for dinner on a Sun evening. We were first in the restaurant when it opened, and we were seated but the waiter came after 15 min to take our order. After that, he brought plates for us, wiped them with some cloth in front of us, placed them on the table, and went away. We noticed quickly that the plates were dirty, all 4 of them and on both sides. We called the waiter and asked for new ones. He brought new plates, almost threw them on the table, rudely informed us that the first ones were clean because he had wiped them, and advised us not to look at the back of the plate because we would eat from the front side. We were pretty shocked when he said that, turned and went away, but didn't want to destroy our evening by more arguing. The food was eatable, of mediocre quality. We had ordered salted lase, but got a sweet one, replaced it, and were later...
Read moreI’ve been coming to Taj Mahal since 2006 and it is one of the best restaurants if you are craving Pakistani/Indian food in Bordeaux! The location is super, it is right in the middle of the city, weekends are very busy so be sure to make a reservation! The cheese naan is one of the best I’ve ever had. Butter chicken is another favorite! The eggplant dish is also AMAZING and a unique recipe to the restaurant alone. The food has been made to compliment the French taste so if you want proper Pakistani/Indian spice let them know! Do try the mango lassi and ofcourse the Pistachio kulfi to end the meal. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, the owners are on ground and always welcome you in with a smile. It’s a family run restaurant and you can tell they give immense attention to detail. Can’t wait to...
