Thang Long — Restaurant in Carcassonne

We were in the mood for Asian food and had planned on going to the place right at the corner near our Airbnb. Unfortunately, they had an unexpected closure today. As we were trying to figure out where to eat, a gentleman stepped out of the restaurant, and we told him our dilemma. That we had hoped to eat at his place.

He suggested we try his brothers restaurant just up around the corner, of Vietnamese place and so we did. It is a humble Mom And pop run type of place. Everything is relatively clean, but just a little down in the heels.

The wife is the server and the husband is the chef. The food was delicious, though a bit basic. We had the spicy beef and the curry chicken and both were good solid choices. Nothing super outstanding or amazing but good food all around :-)

We also ordered spring rolls, which were very good! Not quite enough lettuce for the wrapping, but we made do. The portions were a bit smaller than we are used to in other places of the same type so be aware if you’re looking for the usual larger portions that you might find elsewhere. Please note in the photos, these oval plates are not large.

Our server had laryngitis, unfortunately, so we could barely communicate, but she was very pleasant nonetheless. Our bill came to just...

Je demande si le riz est compris avec le plat, et la serveuse/gérante me répond que non, le riz n’est pas gratuit car on n’est pas dans un restaurant à volonté, avec une attitude très hautaine.

Mon copain demande ce qu’est le Mi Xao, et elle répond d’un mot, « légumes », toujours avec son air hautain.

Pour finir, mon ami commande un bobun au bœuf et demande s’il y a des nems au poulet. La serveuse réplique : « Non ! Nems au porc maison. »

Nous pensions vraiment que cela s’arrêterait là. Eh bien, non ! Après 40 minutes d’attente, nous n’étions toujours pas servis. Nous avions faim et un train à prendre. Je me rends donc au comptoir pour expliquer la situation et trouver une solution, comme par exemple nous préparer nos plats à emporter.

La gérante le prend extrêmement mal : « Vous ne comprenez pas la restauration… Il faut qu’on prépare pour une table de 10 avant vous… ce n’est pas un restaurant à volonté» (oui, elle a que ça en bouche, jsp si elle a été traumatisée dans le passé mais ça a l’air compliqué)

Je suis la pire personne sur laquelle elle pouvait tomber ! Mes parents possèdent également un restaurant vietnamien, donc je connais toutes les galères de la restauration, mais là c’est trop ! La table de 10 avait commandé un bobun et des plats comme nous… et cela se prépare en 10 minutes, les bobun. Il ne faut pas exagérer. Pour les plats, il suffit de chauffer la viande et de préparer le riz dans un bol. Un peu de remise en question serait la bienvenue.

Nous finissons par être encaissés 15 minutes après nous être plaints (55 minutes d’attente pour 4 plats…). La gérante nous indique le montant sur une calculatrice sans un mot et se trompe dans ses calculs…

Le minimum aurait été de s’excuser pour l’attente et de faire un geste commercial, comme offrir une boisson, ce qui ne coûte rien pour un restaurateur.

Cerise sur le gâteau, les plats sont fades et les viandes sont caoutchouteuses, la portion du bobun est ridicule…

En résumé : service médiocre, plats fades, aucune organisation, pas de remise...

Excellent service. The lady was beyond sweet. Apparently, there were no spring rolls (the main reason I went.... it could be that they weren't vegetarian) My friend ordered spicy soup to start and loved it. Then fried rice plus shrimp curry something. The fried rice was not good. My Vietnamese salad was fine (I thought it was a garnish plate) and the vermicelli summer rolls were OK (big but not much inside) the dipping sauce was also OK. I ordered a vegetable curry with rice. Hmmm, it was mainly bamboo. It looked more like a ration than a meal. Overall, great service but ok food. (I've been to...
