Fuumi — Restaurant in Fontainebleau

Disappointing experience overall. We ordered two dishes and both were underwhelming—especially for the price.

The grilled fish (SAKANA grilled) was a tiny portion of salmon served in a heavy cream sauce—nothing about it felt remotely Japanese. At €30, I expected something refined and flavorful, not something so basic and bland.

The Japanese omelet (okonomiyaki) was mostly made of pre-cooked noodles. It wasn’t prepared fresh, the sauce was off, and while it was supposed to include shrimp and pork, there were no shrimp at all—just a fishy aftertaste. The only pork was a thin, overcooked slice of belly stuck in the middle.

We paid €54 for just these two dishes—no drinks, no sides—which was already steep. On top of that, they “accidentally” overcharged us by €6 (which they did return when we flagged it).

All in all, overpriced and poorly executed....

Bad attitude. I booked for a dinner during a program at INSEAD. Due to ungodly traffic coming in from another country, we were delayed and I timely cancelled the booking. I rebooked for another night, and then got one of those emails that I had to provide a credit card number and they would charge €40 per person if you don’t show up. I didn’t reply as I was in class all day and was just going to call when they called and had this horrible attitude that I am cancelling every time I book. What’s up with that? I cancelled fully consistent with their policy. And the second booking wasn’t ever confirmed as I didn’t provide a credit card. I didn’t need to be schooled in French for having a change of plan and for behaving entirely...

Fuumi is one of those restaurants that you will be happy to come back again and again. Located in the heart of Fontainebleau, it is a must if you want to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine.

The menu offers a wide selection of Japanese dished with a nice variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Portions are good. The food is simply delicious.

The service is friendly and helpful. They speak little English, but more than enough to order your dishes.

The price is probably the worst part. It is a bit overpriced in my opinion, but it is in line with other prices you can find in...
