We visited this restaurant after seeing it recommended in the Michelin Guide, but unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations.
From the moment we arrived, the first impression was underwhelming. The maître d’ had his back turned to us and did not acknowledge our presence for over two minutes. This lack of attentiveness set a disappointing tone for the evening.
The interior of the restaurant is brightly lit but feels outdated, with a decor more reminiscent of a generic hotel dining room than a refined culinary establishment — not a positive association.
We had a reservation for 9:30 PM, but upon arrival, we were told the kitchen would be closing shortly and were given only two minutes to make our selections. This created a rushed and uncomfortable start to the meal.
While the staff provided attentive service, we found it to be overly intrusive. The servers frequently hovered near our table, watching us closely, and poured wine in a manner that felt hurried — as if they were eager for us to finish the bottle and leave. Throughout the meal, we felt a little watched and pressured, which detracted from the dining experience.
The food itself was acceptable but unremarkable. The dessert lacked finesse, and the soufflé, in particular, did not meet expectations.
Additionally, the restrooms were uncomfortably warm, with fogged mirrors, which further contributed to the overall dissatisfaction. The music in the restaurant was not good, you should have more chill music.
In summary, we do not intend to return. The experience was disappointing and did not live up to the standards one would expect from a...
Read moreOur evening at L’Affable started very well. When we arrived it was quiet, sophisticated and we were enjoying our bottle of white Sancerre, appetizers and main courses even though the food was coming out from the kitchen fairly quickly as the restaurant got busier. When we got to dessert, we ordered a second bottle of white Sancerre but everything changed, the soufflé arrived but tasted like a burnt omelette and the fig dessert burnt my tongue as the figs were unexpectedly boiling hot next to a calming unflavored sorbet spoon. I was very disappointed as we have never experienced a meal were I am disappointed with dessert. BUT the WORST part of the evening and why I give this restaurant 1 star is the fact that they allowed a family with few kids to completely disrupt our evening. The restaurant not only allowed to have a minor watch cartoons on full volume without headphones but literally LAUGHED at our face when we asked the server to ask the parents to address the issue. This restaurant has 4.6 stars on google and I thought it was going to be more dining oriented but perhaps google is the new trip advisor? I know there is an epidemic of awful parenting and restaurants allowing those awful, selfish and obnoxious parents to get away with bad behavior but as less restaurants are actually surviving, what are they going to...
Read moreRight in the centre of Cannes, this contemporary and elegant bistro has a fine and minimal décor. The menu changes according to products available on the market. The tempura prawns are delicious and the soufflé with Grand Marnier is simply grand. Jean-Paul Battaglia has been running the establishment for over 17 years and I had dinner there at least ten years ago, but I do return regularly when visiting the French Riviera. It never deceived me as its meals were always near perfect and kept high standards. It is really the best restaurant in town. The cook has a flare for seafood, but even meat is handled with care and keen savoir-faire. The style is mainly Mediterranean with classic dishes handled a pinch of creative innovation. The cold raw tuna meat with avocado salad is delicious and so are the warm foie gras raviolis with morilles, the true morels. The service is attentive and professional. The pandemia has not weakened the urge to please the gluttons… Well done Mr Battaglia and congratulations.
Still the best eating place in town. We return to the fine establishment twice a year and in twenty years the master cook never deceived us. Jean-Paul Battaglia has a flare for simple, fresh and tasty ingredients chosen, cooked, assembled and served with minimalist elegance. Even the desserts are very special. ...
