My partner and I came here for a meal. We were quite excited as from the reviews it looked really good and the menu for the week also looked very appealing.
The atmosphere here is nice. Cosy, nice lighting, good background music.
We were welcomed warmly and shown to our seats at the bar. Here is where the positives end.
The service was slow. It took about 15 minutes just to have water put in front of us. Given that we were sat in front of the bartender, this felt ridiculous.
The kitchen is part of the bar and as such is a visible feature to the customers. The one thing I noticed straight away, was the chef. Chefs are notoriously not the happiest of people, but this guy actively looked like he didn't want to be there and could not be bothered. This gave me a bad feeling about what the food would be like.
We waited for about 25 minutes to have our food order taken, which whilst the restaurant was busy, is just simply unacceptable.
We ordered some olives and focaccia as a light bite to get us going. I'm not sure if the chefs here have ever made focaccia or even know what it is, but what we received, were two small pieces of overly priced dry squares of what seemed like stale corn bread. Certainly not bouncy, fluffy and rich with olive oil, that you would expect.
We both ordered the red pepper soup with asparagus and some burrata like cheese. It came semi warm. The asparagus overcooked into limp submission, the red pepper soup itself had not been seasoned or cooked for long enough to develop any umami and develop any flavour beyond its natural raw flavours. I might as well have ordered a raw green pepper to eat.
My partner ordered the gnocchi with tomato sauce and parmesan crisp. This was ok, but given it was $17, the price did not match how basic and small the dish was.
I ordered a prawn spaghetti. $20. I'm not quite sure if anyone let alone the chefs had ever even tried this creation, but I can honestly say this is the worst main course I have ever received in a restaurant. Terrible. Imagine taking a packet of ramen, boiling the hell out of it, and then leaving it to stand in its own water for a while after cooking, so it all sticks together with its starch. Take this ramen, that has now cooled down, and to it add 1 raw prawn that has been sliced into 4 pieces, to hide the fact you are only getting one prawn. Next take some cold prawn/seafood stock that has been diluted with the water they use to wash the plates, and put a spoonful around the sides of your coagulated ramen. A horrific gastronomic failure. If a chef I was employing put this In front of me, I would sack them.
The staff were kind enough to take this dish off my bill, because I sent it back in utter disgust.
Needless to say by this point I was not prepared to risk dessert.
Very disappointing. I would advise not to come here as it's over priced, not because the food is really good, but, because the chefs and management are deluded into thinking that they are making, is amazing food. 🤦🏻♂️
I don't like writing bad reviews, but this place warrants it. I was disgusted in spending €89 on a spectacular failure of cuisine, leaving hungry...
