With only 2 very brief days in Paris, my girlfriend and I were desperate to find a relaxing, authentic French dinner for our one night. Walking south on Rue d'Arcole, we were overwhelmed by the number of touristy restaurants and shops (obviously with Notre Dame less than 2 blocks away). Out of the corner of my eye I noticed Au Bougnat a block away just slightly off the beaten path and it became the highlight of our brief trip.

The ambiance is incredibly warm (especially on a damp and cold Parisian night). English is well understood, and the staff was patient to a point as I stumbled through some rudimentary French. We agree on the flat fee 3 course meal and, with help, made a wine selection from their exhaustive collection to perfectly compliment our meal. All of that would have been enough, but the food was superb - locally sourced, hearty portions that made it one of the best meals on our trip.

I've recommended it friends and family for their upcoming trips. If anyone gets the name of the short, dark hair server working there; could you make a note to I can commend her. ...

we're four people and because I was kinda full, I didn't order menu set(starter+main dish). And the lady came to tell us we only order 3 starters but four main dishes, but we couldn't share with each other. We felt weird why she said that cause we didn't plan to share starters. After that, she took my knife and fork. It seems she really tried to prevent us to share but it makes me feel uncomfortable. The worse part was not that. When my friends had their main dishes, but mine wasn't here. So I thought that maybe mine needs to be cooked longer. After waiting for 15 minutes, I tried to ask them. The another lady checked with the kitchen and told me that they don't have duck anymore. WHY YOU DIDN'T TELL ME FROM THE BEGINNING? and the first annoying lady came to tell me that she thought that I didn't order. THEN WHY YOU SAID WE ORDER 4 MAIN DISHES AT THE BEGINNING? I was so pissed off so I didn't re-order. I think I never write any bad reviews in my life so far but the service was too ridiculous and bad that I have...

Both the 'sirloin' steak and the pork were so tough and fatty they were inedible. The waitress could see we were struggling but ghosted until we called her over...the pork was replaced on request with another dish but we felt too embarrassed to send both plates back so my husband persevered with the steak but left 3/4 as it was fat and sinew (definitely not a sirloin cut) - we weren't asked how our meal was at any point. There was no apology or discount or any acknowledgement during the meal or at payment of the poor food - this place is busy because the place up the road is always booked out so they get the overflow (that's how we ended up here), but they obviously cater to tourists and don't really care as they know there'll be a fresh lot through tomorrow. We would definitely suggest spending an extra few minutes and a bit of effort to find somewhere...

What a WONDERFUL little spot around the corner from the Notre Dame. For authentic French food, this is an absolutely fantastic restaurant. We were treated like family as tourists (which we found hard to find in Paris), and the service was exceptional. We went here on New Years Eve. We started with the Charcuterie Board, which was wonderful with a selection of meat and cheese, and for our mains, I had the Steak with Foie Gras (which I have never had) and it was wonderful! My girlfriend had the Risotto with Shrimp. She loved it! For dessert I had the Pistachio CrÚme Brûlée, and my girlfriend has Chocolate Praline Cake. It was a wonderful meal! Thank you to the staff for treating us so well, you made our New Years Eve!

A little gem tucked at the back of Notre Dame Cathedral. Run by the two wonderful French people Roman and Betina. Both speak English well especially the latter. Service is kind and responsive. We tried the duckling fillet and it was a very good 7/10. Light flavour, tender and good quality. Fragrant. We tried the pork confit. It was not good because the meat was dry and overly broken down to shreds even though it kept it’s chunk shape. Flavour is light and mostly in its sauce/soup. Overall this dish gets a 2/10. The Wine at 4.50€ a glass was fantastic. Ambiance is a 10/10. Classic tavern style and good energy. Maybe I’ll come back to try other dishes. Just because I like the people and the place.
