Bistrot Vignon — Restaurant in Paris

I do not understand how this restaurant has these other great ratings — the only explanation is that they are all from guests who came for dinner, and the dinner chef and staff are completely different from the lunch chef and staff. If anything — DO NOT come here for lunch.

Firstly, our waitress was quite rude. She rolled her eyes when we asked for condiments, and climbed up on the bar in order to fill up our carafe of water to avoid having to walk around the whole bar.

Secondly, the food was not just mediocre — it was actively unappetizing and poorly presented. Fries were soggy, duck was well done when we requested medium, and the side salads were like rabbit food: just shredded, poor quality lettuce with flavorless pieces of tomato. I was staying locally and chose the restaurant because of the overall rating - I am so over choosing based on ratings. Its a nice place and I can imagine the atmosphere is good but the food was appalling. I looked at the chef and had no confidence and jokingly asked the waitress if he cooked a good steak, stupid question. she obviously said yes. I got a steak slightly larger than a golf ball, stupid cut for a rump, that was tough, largely uncooked, and worse still cooked unevenly. The chips were from old oil and just terrible and the salad was iceberg lettuce with a tiny bit of dressing. I told the waitress and the barman but chose to pay because it was my last night in Paris and did not want a fuss. Had the opportunity to chance upon a quient french cafe,boss joe and his wife, laurey. They were friendly and chatty to us when we went. They speak very good english among other languages too, and it turned out we became great friends. Food was excellent and reasonably priced, own reciepe cocktails were grest tasting.
