My partner and I dined at Fouquet's Champs-Elysées on Sat 4th march.
We ordered the Avocado carpaccio, crab meat, pink grapefruit, egg mimosa as a starter (EUR32). It was not bad, but it was not good either. Bland and unremarkable. The sort of food that one would get from the buffet at a motorway services or a ferry food court.
For the main course, we ordered the Grilled salmon, fennel with pink peppercorn; lemon beurre fondu (EUR42). I had ordered mine well-cooked returned mine instantly after less than two bites. The salmon had a very strong taste of being burnt from the grill, followed by a mouthful of the most awful fishy grease, dreadfully undercooked. My partner had ordered it rosé and it came overcooked and so dry that there was no taste and the fillet was so thin that it could not have been cooked properly. The bed of fennel was not too bad, but what's the point if the salmon on top is disgusting? We now were in the realm of appalling food, with low-cost ingredients and poor cooking.
We both returned the dish instantly and chose the Roasted scallops with panko, parmesan and pear cream, pilaf rice with lemon grass instead (EUR52). Whilst not inedible, the whole dish was very unimaginative and overly greasy. The scallops were not of the best quality. The parmesan and pear sauce was unsubtle and just too rich. The pilaf rice was swimming in oil. I half ate mine because it was late and we were hungry and it was a special occasion, but I wish I had walked out as the food was an insult.
For dessert, we ordered the Iced smooth caramel parfait, stracciatella velouté with lime (EUR18), hoping that they would have a dessert chef, but it was very much the same experience. The "velouté" was pure, heavy, salty, tasteless cream. It was bland, unremarkable, did not fulfill even a quarter of its promise. Passable for a very low budget restaurant, or an all-inclusive buffet at a not so great resort but to have this at Fouquet's on the Champs-Elysées is beyond shocking and appalling: it's robbery!
We learned that the menu had been designed by 3-Michelin star chef Pierre Gagnaire and cooked by executive chef Bruno Guéret. Clearly, neither care about the irreparable damage done to their names. Indeed, I do not believe that it is possible that Bruno Guéret was at all present in the kitchen that night. Surely, this is not the sort of food that he would serve to the politician and celebrity VIPs that frequent this establishment, but the Saturday night crowd can be shamelessly abused.
On a positive note, the welcome was very pleasant. Service was OK. The waiters took our complaint seriously, and tried their best to be polite and helpful in the circumstances. Shame that they failed to bring a glass of white wine with the scallops. If it were for me alone, I’d walked out instantly after the salmon arrived and I very much regret that I didn’t.
It is one of the most upsetting dinner experiences of my life. I will never ever again return to Fouquet's, or any of the Barrière Group restaurants.
The management should pay a visit to the Café de Paris in Monaco to learn what a fine dining brasserie...

Read moreA table of six sat down next to ours while we were eating: two younger kids and four adults. They ordered red wine and two glasses remained almost entirely untouched even as they finished eating. The wind was evidently strong; tissues, napkins, and paper were flying around. At some point, one of their backpacks was knocked over by the wind. A glass of wine, which even I had noticed, was far too close to the edge flew into the paper bag of a newly purchased Dior bag. The Dior bag even when removed from its paper bag, box, and wrapping paper; was entirely soaked. The table next to us remained ignorant of the situation while the restaurant staff attempted to figure out how to deal with the situation. The owner of the bag communicated that they needed compensation for the newly bought Dior bag being ruined. The manager, however, then replaced the packaging of the bag and considered the situation resolved. Moreover, the manager then had an extremely short conversation with the table next to ours, in French (which none of us spoke), which I assume to be along the lines of ‘Did you do this?’. The table presumably responded that the wine was knocked over by the wind and they had no part in it. The wine was placed only a few inches from the edge. The wind was clearly strong enough to knock over a filled backpack, which would prove that it would be even easier for the wind to knock over a glass of half-filled liquid. The manager then proceeded to deflect every allegation from us, saying repeatedly ‘It’s not the restaurant’s fault’. We never claimed it was the restaurant’s fault. In the end, we left without any compensation for the damages. The manager, in our interaction, failed, refused to even, to establish clear communication between us and the table next to us regarding this issue, choosing only to deflect blame from the restaurant. Afterwards, our server was the one to provide a proper apology and offer reparations while the manager had not said anything in this regard. The issues in this situation were terribly handled by the restaurant’s manager. We wished to come to an agreement and understanding, as well as receive some form of compensation, from the table who failed to pay attention to their two glasses of untouched red wine. What happened here could have been dealt with a lot better than it was, with its ineffective communication and incredibly...
