"For over 130 years, this majestic church has stood as a silent witness to Parisian history, its walls echoing centuries of faith, art, and transformation. Located just steps from the iconic Champs-Élysées and directly behind the Louis Vuitton flagship store, the Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis is a masterpiece of Jesuit Baroque architecture. Commissioned by King Louis XIII and built between 1627 and 1641, it marked a dramatic shift from Gothic to Baroque style in Paris. [Eglise Sai...ch), Paris] The church’s façade, inspired by the Church of the Gesù in Rome, features Corinthian columns and a striking bell tower. Inside, its lavish decoration was designed to contrast Protestant austerity, with a soaring 195-foot dome, stained glass windows, and a white marble altar that includes fragments from Napoleon’s tomb. Victor Hugo himself donated clam-shell holy water vessels in memory of his daughter. [Eglise Sai...ch), Paris] Throughout its history, the church has endured revolution, repurposing, and restoration. It was once transformed into a 'Temple of Reason' during the French Revolution before being reinstated as a place of worship in 1802. Today, it remains a cultural and spiritual landmark, with some of its artworks—like a Delacroix painting—occasionally loaned to museums around the world. [Eglise Sai...ch), Paris] A must-visit for anyone touring Paris, this architectural gem offers a profound glimpse into the city's layered past, nestled in the heart of Le Marais, just behind the glamour of...
Read moreMost unwelcoming church I've ever had the misfortune of setting foot in and that is due, in large part, to one Mr. Jeb Seder, the Cathedral's very own Canon for Development, ironically. We were in Paris for Fashion Week and the Cathedral agreed to host an event in which we were showing. From the moment we arrived at the church, and were greeted with Mr. Seder's abundance of disdain, we were made to feel wholly unwelcomed. He was exceedingly rude, disturbingly confrontational and was even overheard shouting, "Kiss my a$$, lady!" to a guest. To say the least, it was shocking to witness such behavior - without any provocation meriting such a response - from a church official. This is clearly not the right position for this man and I am further shocked by the fact that he is the chosen representative of the church to the public. Absolutely inexcusable. He should be promptly removed from the post as he is an absolute...
