We prejudged this place by it's cover and thought we, as a family group, might not be cool enough for this place but I'm so glad we went in. The place is pretty swank. Enough to feel special. We were welcomed and it was one of our favorite dinners in all of Paris. Jacopo must be taking notes from diners comments because some of the things listed in lower-starred reviews have changed. For example, the noise-level was not loud at all when we were there, they have English menus now, and the staff was attentive and friendly.
Often in Paris we felt rushed to order and as if the waiter was being inconvenienced by everything we said. This was so not the case at Jacopo. The waiter was friendly and happy to engage with us about the menu, which put us at ease immediately. ("What is with these fluffy mayonnaise eggs we keep seeing on every menu?") He recommended a killer aperitif that I'm still gaga over. (White martini.) And without issue he returned my daughter's drink to the bar for sweetening-up when it was deemed too tart.
There were about 6-8 items on each section of the menu. Enough variety and creativity that we had a hard time deciding. The food arrived more quickly than expected. My husband's lamb was cooked as perfectly as I've ever seen it done. (Although it didn't really taste of lamb. Probably good for some people be we kind of wanted that lamb-y flavor. And the cold chickpea mash under the lambchops was kind of a weird pairing.) My chicken quarter was also beautifully cooked. It was my favorite of the three things we ordered. The seasonal vegetable side was actually a seasonal vegetable (surprise, surprise!) and it was lovely.
The ambiance feels special but not stuffy. The prices were quite reasonable compared to much of Paris. It has an open kitchen so it was fun to see the cooks bustling away in their domain and wonder if they were working on our dishes. We could have relaxed there a good long while if we hadn't been on a schedule. We will definitely eat there again when we return to Paris.
End note: While we were there I noticed the manager walking around checking wine glasses by holding them up to the light. And he inquired of us on the way out if everything had been satisfactory. That's the kind of attention to detail I...
Read moreI would have given 4 stars if the service wasn’t so terrible.
Food was nice & cocktails were good. The atmosphere and entertainment was very good.
Service was so bad it ruined our meal. Firstly, our waitress forgot to order many dishes & drinks so we had to keep reminding her/ asking when our food would arrive.
She told my friend she would bring a free cocktail and remove her cocktail from the bill as she was waiting so long for it to arrive, this drink never arrived also. She also offered the table a round of shots on the house for messing up the orders, these did not arrive.
Then 4 dishes did not arrive to the table at all so we had to reorder. One of these dishes arrived but the second didn’t so we waited patiently however the kitchen closed and the dish never arrived. We then asked to just remove this dish and to pay the bill. We would have liked to stay for more drinks but as one person at the table did not receive any of her order we just wanted to leave.
Our waitress then said she cannot remove the dish as the kitchen had said we received it, when we tried to explain we hadn’t she became very rude and hostile and refused to help us. She advised us management had said she cannot remove the dish as she thinks we had eaten it. The complimentary cocktail was also not removed.
When we found a manager she had no idea about the situation and was very apologetic and removed the dish we did not receive.
We then saw this waitress arguing with management for ammending the bill. All of this was very strange and was a very disappointing end to the night, not only were we treated poorly & accused of lying, we left hungry and missed the plans we had for after dinner as we were waiting so long for our food to arrive and for the bill situation to be resolved. Very...
