We had a bad experience here. We walked in after a long day hoping to get dinner. Even before we sat down our server walked up to one of my friends and told her they had very little vegetarian food. That was probably because we’re all ethnically Indian and he made the assumption we’d eat vegetarian food. Racial assumptions aside it was weird that it was the first thing he thought to say to us. No greeting or anything. One of my friends who went to use the restroom also pointed out that the place was filthy and had no soap to wash hands with!
Anyway we decided what to order and started to tell our server the order when he showed up again. He seemed impatient, then said something to us walked away in the middle of taking the order. We waited another 10 minutes for him to come back while he chatted with other guests and generally worked around the restaurant. When he didn’t come back we decided to leave thinking the restaurant was busy and we weren’t getting enough attention.
Our server came up to my friend at the door and told her that the partial order was in the kitchen and showed her the ticket. He seemed agitated so I decided to step in either sit down or offer to pay and leave. He seemed to get agitated (I honestly don’t know why) and started to point fingers. At this point another person who seemed like a manager stepped in and my wife said that perhaps we could get another server. Weirdly, both the manager and the server seemed hell bent on escalating the situation. We had kids with us so I asked everyone to step out and again offered to pay and leave. This just seemed to set them off more and things descended to name calling. The server told me to “go to McDonald’s” and “go back where you came from”. Clearly this person understood enough English to drop slurs at me so it wasn’t entirely a language issue as I’d been thinking so far.
If you’re a person of color or someone who values their dignity I’d strongly recommend staying away from this place. Our experience was almost enough to put us off Paris and it’s wonderful denizens entirely. We were saved by Le Chat Noir down the street where the service, food, and sanitation standards...

My mom, my sister, and I went to Café des Deux Moulins last night. It was a place we were so excited to visit on our trip to Paris, and it was even my birthday! When we got there, everything was perfect. The place looked great, the vibe was awesome, and they had live music with musicians who sounded like total pros. We walked past the bar, and the barman there was so nice and welcoming.
We were having a few drinks and our dinner, and my mom (who speaks French) was talking to the barman. She told him it was my birthday. A few minutes later, the band started playing "Happy Birthday," and they even said my name! It was the coolest thing ever. Then a server came over with a cake with two candles on it. I was so surprised and happy.
But then, out of nowhere, this tall guy, who wasn't a dark skinned person, started yelling and screaming really loud at the barman and our server right in front of everyone. We were so confused. My mom told us he was yelling at them because they celebrated my birthday.
You can't even imagine how awkward and awful that felt. Everyone in the whole place was staring at us, and it was just so uncomfortable. The barman and the server were so professional and were total gentlemen. The other guy... I don't know, maybe he was having a bad day or something, but it was just so out of line.
It makes me so sad to say this, but I have to. We had such a beautiful experience at Café des Deux Moulins until that one guy came and completely messed it all up.
Thank you so much to the barman, the server, and the musicians for making my birthday so special and unforgettable. And to that other guy, thanks for giving us a really crappy memory...
Read moreThis place holds a special place in our hearts being big Amelie fans and even naming our daughter after the film. We have been once before, many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it and since then and up until this visit was always up there as a special place.
We returned to Paris and booked to go. Our disappointment was off the scale. First off my wife went to the toilet as soon as we got there, it was like something from a third world highway service stop. So bad that my wife told me afterwards that if it hadn’t had been this place she would have insisted we left before ordering. The white wine we ordered after having to tell the waiter that we were ready was served warm and we had to send it back to get colder wines. The dinners were average at best, their version of a Cesar salad which was pale lettuce leaves and a half arsed effort. The restaurant felt run down, tired and un-cared for. I’m no feminist or anything like that but the place only had male staff, which for a film centralized around female characters is funny. The place lacks the female touch and care. Finally the crème brûlée was great, which is one thing they got right.
For such a special place that clearly has international tourists (many Japanese when we were there) it’s extremely sad that it can’t be kept right to celebrate such an incredible film. No...
