La Bottega di Piacenza — Local services in Paris

While staying at a hotel in the Montmartre area of Paris, I walked by an Italian deli called La Bottega di Piacenza several times and asked if they made sandwiches. They told me they did, but come at 12 noon or later.

I watched the man behind the counter carefully make a tall sandwich on fresh bread for a waiting customer, so I told him that I wanted the same.

My sandwich had mozzarella cheese, four slices of ripe tomatoes, drizzled with balsamique vinegar and olive oil with a generous amount of prosciutto and fresh chopped basil.

I told him and the cashier that I was taking it on my airplane flight as I didn’t much like airplane food.

I paid by credit/debit card and it cost 11€. Not bad considering it was a large sandwich.

Aside from sandwiches this shop dells freshly-made lasagne, marinated anchovies, artichokes and other ingredients for takeaway, since there are no inside or outside tables. Wines, olive oils, canned Italian chopped tomatoes and sauces and special pastas are also displayed in wall cabinets and may be purchased.

When in Paris, I highly recommend shopping at La Bottega di Piacenza on Rue Abbesses in Montmartre, near Rue Lepic.

Possibly the best panini sandwich I’ve ever had. Can’t fault the end product but the process of getting it leaves something to be desired. The place to order is at the other end of the shop from where the sandwiches are made and nowhere near the menu so you need a good memory for what you want. Once ordered you have to wait 15-20 minutes for the sandwich to be freshly made due to it being done with passion and care, albeit at snails pace. Not fast food but...

When I got home, I realised I had lost my wallet. It turns out I'd dropped it in their shop. I rang them, and they put it in the post the next day! The food. The people. The location.
