Café Philippe — Restaurant in Paris

I discovered Café Philippe by pure accident after years of walking past. And I am glad I did! I had the joue de bœuf with a selection of roasted beets. The meat was one of the most tender I have ever had and I was dreaming about it long after. So much so, that I have found an excuse to come again, by booking a table for my community’s dinner. The owner Philippe is incredibly sweet and accommodating, and made sure we were comfortable in a more private corner of the restaurant. The food was, once again, sublime (this time I indulged in the tarte tatin, after reliving the joue de bœuf experience, and so glad I did), service friendly and attentive, and atmosphere warm and cozy. Good main dish. Bon plat principal. Very disappointed however with the desserts. Desserts très décevants. Servir des desserts de ce type c'est assez honteux. Pavlova is terrible, just a bunch of chantilly cream with fruits thrown into it. Tarte Tatin is the tiniest piece I have ever seen. Pavlova est juste un mélange de chantilly et de fruit, et la tarte Tatin est la pire Tatin jamais vu. Serving such dessert is really a shame. I won't go back again. Je n'y retournerai pas. Stumbled upon this place and decided to eat here because of the dishes on the menu. Not your regular cafe dishes, but with a little twist. Because the prices were very reasonable (all starters under 10, all mains under 20), we didn't expect too much.

Our waiter was a very nice guy. The service was excellent, fast and silent, suiting the quality and sophistication of the dishes served.
