So cool! Fotoautomat works to restore and preserve analog photobooths, which is really cool because there are very few truly vintage ones left in the world. There's a forum site that works to categorize the ones still standing—I had visited one at Brooklyn Film Camera in December, and I was excited to try one of the ones in Paris. Fotoautomat maintains several photobooths around the city (there's a list on their website), but this one in Montmartre seems to be the most popular. If you want less of a wait, it may be good to look into the other photobooths in the city.
I went to this photobooth twice; the first time I went on a Saturday morning, I waited around 20 minutes. The results were really good; I went later that day with a friend and the wait was only five minutes. I love the effect of this style of old-school photography. I would recommend being cautious of putting the photos in your pocket afterward; they can bend, and they can pick up hairs/dust while the processing liquid is still drying. It was hard to shut the curtain background all the way, so I can see a bit of the striped background on the side of my photo, but I don't mind it....
Read moreIt is a very popular machine on social media. First of all, you have to wait in line. As we learned from the café staff just across the street, you have to wait in line no matter what the weather conditions are, whatever day you come on weekdays or weekends. We waited in line for almost 2 hours on a day when the weather was very cold. You can pose 4 different poses by tossing 4€ coins into the cash drawer. The machine only accepts cash, credit card is not valid. Before you start shooting, you can choose your favorite among 3 different backgrounds (1st white background, 2nd black background (you can shoot the curtain) and 3, both black and white background). As soon as you put the money, you have to look at the screen immediately because your photo is taken suddenly without any notification. Unfortunately, we did not do much research before we went, you can check out the places where you can find the same concept in Paris, not only in Montmarte, on the Fotoaoutomat France website and social...
Read moreThis is where the love of my life proposed to me 🥹😍❤️!! We arrived here at 30 minutes before close and there was only 2 people ahead of us. The wait time was very short! I recommend coming in the evening as the wait is very short and the photos still come out the same excellent quality. The cost is very reasonable, I suggest bringing cash as it is probably quicker for the transaction, but the machine does accept credit card as well. I will advise, this is NOT ideal for a group larger than 2-3 maximum. If you do not fit on the chair, you won’t fit in the frame. As 2 people our photos turned out great! But other groups ahead of us had 4+ people and they had mentioned some people in their photos were not visible. Your photo will come out wet from the machine, so it’s best to keep it flat and dry for a few minutes before tucking it...
