I’m not sure if they’re having an off day or what, but our experience definitely did not live up to how others have reviewed this place. For €85, the quantity of food was not worth it, the taste was subpar, and service was average.
They must’ve changed up their menu because out of all the dishes, only two were good - the duck speck and the dessert. Let me review each course one by one: Appetizers - tapioca chips with radish cream, carrot cake roll, and pork lard with bread - none of these stood out and lacked complexity in flavor and texture Appetizers 2 - egg yolk - this is quite unique and tasted decent Appetizer 3 - Parmesan puff with mushroom mayo and beet root with horseradish - this was okay for me Course 1 - crab filling dumpling with chicken stock - this was interesting in a bad way. With the stock the bottom became soggy very quickly, the flavor was quite mild Course 2 - duck speck - this was unique and delicious, I liked how it was presented, and the pickled onion really balances things out Course 3 - pasta with almond filling and veal broth - this was okay, again flavor is super mild Course 4 - fish sausage - by far the worst dish of the night. The sausage was extremely mushy and lacked any complexity in flavor. For the main protein this is a major disappointment and felt like they’re being cheap Course 5 - dessert - this was delicious, I liked how it seems like a heavy dessert but the ice cream and other parts actually made it less heavy
Service also leaves a lot to be desired - after we finished dessert and informed the waitress that we don’t need coffee or tea, she left us there for 20 minutes without bringing the bill or checking in on us. We had to try to catch her and ask for the bill. When I put down my credit card, she still gave the receipt to my fiance to sign even though she saw me taking it out...
Read moreVERY disappointing. TL;DR: Got charged €40 for an inedibly burnt dish of gnocchi, amidst an otherwise underwhelming meal.
I generally don't like to write negative reviews but this warrants it. After trying to decipher the illegible menu and overcoming sticker shock -- and I'm not known to shy away from a splurge -- we ordered two pasta dishes, a spaetzl and a gnocchi. We were assured they were "copious" enough to be a full meal, I guess to justify the very punchy €40 / plate, but the dishes that ultimately came out were a huge letdown (and weren't even especially generous).
The spaetzl was dry, flabby and bland - I would liken them to overcooked soba noodles. But at least it was edible, which was not the case for the gnocchi with mushrooms. Listed on the menu as "fumée" (smoked) the resulting dish smelled and tasted unequivocally of HEAVILY burnt eggs from a cheap, overused pan. My wife and I each had one bite and both found it completely inedible. The burnt-pan smell was so overpowering that its wafts even managed to ruin the nose on the decent wine we had. When we brought it to the attention of the waitress/proprietress, she insisted that it was intentional and that I just didn't have a taste for "aromatics" - always nice to be told that you just don't have good enough taste to appreciate the dish. At that point we'd had enough, but spent another 20+ minutes getting the cold shoulder before we could get someone's attention long enough to ask for the bill, and another 15 minutes waiting for it. And of course, the burnt gnocchi was still on the bill, despite my having sent 90% of the dish back untouched - the proprietress couldn't even look me in the eye as I paid.
All in all a terrible experience from one I was really looking forward to based on the other reviews. Any restaurant can have an off-night - how you deal with it is the...
Read moreAfter trying every Michelin Stars in Paris (follow me for the reviews) in 365 days and in between the 3 stars challenge, I went to this restaurant because my PT kept suggesting it. He was right.
So, the usual question , what’s interesting here? The spirit. There’s a strong spirit in this restaurant. Not just because of the costumes or the design. No it’s beyond that. They love their culinary roots, love to share their regional products but they do want to add a personal touch. I guess the two dishes where you really can sense it are the egg and the dessert. He is also attracted by “terre mer”, playing with textures etc… You are in a true gastronomic restaurant hidden behind the chalet spirit. By the way, you’ll also appreciate that the vegetables are grown for their own garden. I won’t start speaking about the couple managing the restaurant, they are too nice to be described.
We had a great night. And I guess that the main point. It doesn’t have a star ( it’s in the Michelin which is already a selection and an important criteria…) but you’ll forget your worries for a while and enjoy the night.
Strongly recommended
Update 2023 : came back. As great as the previous time. I also noticed that aside from two dishes, the rest changed. So you can go back and you won’t have the...
