As an American, I was hugely disappointed with the room, given that we paid 380 euros per night. I understand that we Americans are used to a certain degree of amenities, and that not all hotels in foreign countries can accommodate us. While the hotel location was great (Latin Quarter), the room had a lot to be desired. First, while we had a lamp and a coffee maker in the room on the desk, neither was plugged in. We had to move the desk and get down on our hands and knees to plug them in. The coffee maker was not of very good quality which meant that the coffee wasn't that good. Traveling to foreign countries means that we must be prepared to have the appropriate voltage converters for the country. We did our research and found the proper adapter which worked fine. However, the outlet on one side of the bed was near the floor and adjacent to the night stand drawers. Because of this arrangement it was impossible to open the drawer without unplugging the adapter. While the bathroom was ok, there were two issues. First there is no outlet to plug in a personal hair dryer or curling iron. This meant that my wife had to sit on the floor outside the bathroom and plug in her hair dryer and curling iron in front of the mirror next to the desk. Secondly, the toilet paper roll was positioned so closely to the toilet and the wall that it was impossible to sit down and not knock the roll of toilet paper on the floor. I don't see any easy way to fix these issues. Another very irritating issue was with the safe. It was in a cabinet on the top shelf. My wife who is 5' 5" could not reach the safe. I am 6' 4" and it was a reach for me, especially to reach to the back of the safe. It was very dark and I had to go on feel alone to ensure I got everything out. This means that in order for the average person to get to the safe, they would have to stand in a chair. Then there was the elevator. I got stuck on the elevator for several minutes trying to figure out how to get the door open. All of the signage is in French. I pushed the call button which gave me a French speaking person, which made it difficult to understand. I pressed the button again and thankfully someone from the front desk was able to open the door for me. For those Americans who are not familiar with the French culture when it comes to drinking coffee, it is important to know this. Coffee is meant to be enjoyed sitting at a table over conversation. It is not meant to be carried out and drunk in your room. My wife wanted a better cup of coffee, as I did, so I went downstairs to get coffee for us both. The coffee machine was quite nice and offered many styles of coffee. The only cups next to the coffee pot were the very small sized cups. The large cups were on the tables. I took two of the cups from the table and prepared two cups of coffee which I took back to the room. I asked about to go cups but they don't have them. Upon my return, I was greeted by a very agitated wait staff who informed me in French which i did not understand, that I wasn't allowed to take any more coffee unless I paid for it. A guest nearby translated her displeasure with me, and I politely said, I understand and left. For the next several days, I went to a restaurant next door, which opens at 8:30am to get coffee in to go cups. I have nothing against the French culture being different than ours. We understood that there would have to be some adjustments, which we were willing to make. But what was not ideal for us was that we were not told about the coffee etiquette ahead of time. It would have been nice to have been given a helpful guide for us to read over to be sure we understood the lack of outlets, coffee etiquette, need for adaptors, signage only in French in elevators,, etc. We have never paid 380 euros per night for a room. The average price was over a hundred euros less expensive, but due to the time we were there, May 22- May 29. it was the tourist season so the rates were higher. We understand that. In conclusion, while the hotel was lovely, the location was great, we expected more than we received. We will never stay in this hotel again or recommend it to our friends. Read morePosting here because my review keeps getting removed from Tripadvisor, but I wish I had seen a review like this before staying here. This review is long overdue, and I hope others find it helpful. It’s what I would have wanted to see prior to booking this hotel. I would not recommend staying here. The location of the hotel is great but there are plenty of other properties nearby you could stay and this hotel lacks security. The hotel itself is serviceable and the staff that work directly at the hotel are very nice. A few things to note:
This hotel does incentivize the positive reviews. They do a quarterly drawing for a free stay (3 nights I believe) in exchange for reviews on TripAdvisor, hence all of the positive reviews without much detail. Someone mentioned this in their review and I overlooked it, but this alone should have stopped me from booking.
The staff at the front desk is very nice, as is the housekeeping staff. The hotel itself is fine, certainly not above a 3 star and even that is pushing it. The room was large, the bathroom ceiling had a lot of mold because there was no fan in there. Breakfast was included in our stay, but we went to local bakeries for breakfast so I can’t comment on that.
DO NOT under any circumstances store your luggage at this hotel. This is when my husband’s wedding band and my wedding band that belonged to my deceased grandmother were stolen. Tripadvisor removed my post with all of the details, but know that we did exhaust every other possibility before coming to the unfortunate conclusion that they were stolen. There was a staff change during the time we were gone and there is ZERO security at the front of this hotel, only a receptionist who is also the one helping guests, so I assume that’s when it occurred. I wish I had paid more attention to that and its something I will prioritize going forward - key card entry into the hotel or a 24/7 doorman.
Despite reaching out to hotel management and speaking with the person who responds to reviews on here, as well trying to get in touch with someone from their parent company multiple times (you can find it on google, I was asked to remove the name from my original review), no effort to truly investigate and resolve the situation was made. Supposedly security footage existed, but I was never allowed to view it or even speak to whoever did review it (let alone anyone in the security dept, if that exists). I was told "no one touched your bag" and I basically had to take their word for it before they started ignoring me - I wasn't even asked what my bag looked like. Feel free to message me with...
