Ethiopian food is diverse, flavorsome and served in generous portions. Of the handful of Ethiopian restaurants in Paris, Godjo is our favorite. Hidden away in a quiet corner of the Latin Quarter behind the Panthéon, a night out here will take you on a voyage to Addis Ababa. The lively music, colorful décor and gently-mannered waiters are purely and delightfully Ethiopian. For the uninitiated, Ethiopian cuisine is a compendium of Indian, Pakistani and East African cuisine. But with one important difference: there are no knives or forks; guests eat with their hands. Following Ethiopian tradition, dishes are served all together on one big plate, and eaten using large savory pancakes called injera. Meat dishes include doro tebs (chicken with fried onions), ye bere sega wot (beef ragout) and ye beg tebs (lamb with onion). Vegetarian dishes take in ye messer (spicy lentils), ye fasolia wot (green beans and carrots) and ye kesser wot (beetroot and potato). You can specify how spicy you want your dish to be. The Formule Découvert (tasting menu) contains a portion each of the restaurant’s most popular dishes and is the best value for money on the menu. Godjo is great for groups of four to five. The ambience is uniquely African, and the restaurant has a mixed-age crowd, although it is predominantly young. Book in advance, and make sure you’re hungry. But don’t go if you’re in a rush: the service often runs on...
Read moreA few years ago, in 2019, I visited Paris for a few days. We took a walk through the neighbourhood and passed by Godjo, and it smelled so incredibly good we couldnt help but go there the next day. Coming from a town in the Netherlands where international cuisine is not easily accessible, we found the staff and service to be so kind and willing to explain everything (we asked for cutlery, kind of embarrassing in hindsight but they were so nice about it). Ever since then, this has been my favourite kitchen and every opportunity I get to eat this kind of food I take it. So even years later, I felt the need to express my gratitude to Godjo for introducing us to not only the amazing food but also the welcoming and kind culture that comes with it. If I'm ever back in Paris this will be the first place I'll visit. Merci beaucoup...
Read moreCame here with my family while on vacation. We were tired of the same food and wanted something different, so a local pointed us in this direction. We have never tried ethiopian food before, so we were very excited to try it. To say it was extremely delicious is an understatement. We were blown away by the flavor, presentation, and quantity. We tried the ethiopian beer and it was also extremely delicious and perfectly complimented the food we had ordered. The perfect meal to end our perfect trip. Waitress was very nice and efficient, and food came out decently fast. Hot, flavorful, and full of life. Absolutely recommend if you are...
