Three of us visited the restaurant Habile in Paris, and it truly lived up to its stellar reviews. We were accompanied by our 19-year-old grandson, a very picky eater who hadn't eaten much all day. The staff at Habile are exceptional; they greeted us warmly and, knowing we had a reservation, addressed us by name.
Our main server, Maddie, was a delight. As an American with limited French, I was surprised and comforted by her perfect Midwestern accent. Despite only having traveled as far west as London, Maddie took excellent care of us throughout our meal.
The food was outstanding. My wife chose two appetizers: the Eggs with Mayonnaise, which were fantastic if you enjoy mayonnaise (as we do), and the Duck and Pork Appetizer, which she loved, especially for the nuts in it. Our grandson had the Veal Chop for his main course, a first for him, and he thought it was great. The mashed potatoes that came with it were so delicious that we all had a taste.
I asked the gentleman who seated us for recommendations and opted for the Salt Roasted Beetroots as my appetizer, which was an excellent choice. For my main course, I had the 8-hour Cooked Lamb, which was incredibly tender and flavorful. The carrot puree and roasted carrots complemented it perfectly.
For dessert, we ordered a variety to share: the Rhubarb Confit, Strawberry Cake, and Dark Chocolate Cream Pot. All were delightful, but the Dark Chocolate Cream Pot was the unanimous favorite.
If you visit, be sure to say hi to Maddie. Our experience at Habile was memorable and I highly...
Read moreAbout a week before my reservation (which was made far in advance), the restaurant reached out to let me know that on the night of our dinner, they will be hosting a special dinner in honor of an up and coming winemaker. They informed me that because of this, a special tasting menu will be served. Beyond that, I was not informed of any other details. The tasting menu looked good, so I went along with it. However, that turned out to be a mistake. We arrived at 7:30PM (the time of the reservation) and basically sat there waiting for over 45 minutes for other guests to gather. I was certainly not made aware that dinner would not start until everyone arrived, no matter how late they were going to be. Finally, they started the dinner. I thought that most of the dishes were good, though the duck breast was severely undercooked, bloody and impossible to chew. A few others were too salty for my wife and daughter. Overall, it was unfortunate that we ended up at Habile. on this "special" dinner night, as that made our experience much worse. Had I known that I was going to have to sit for 45+ minutes waiting for people to gather, I would have cancelled my reservation and gone elsewhere. Other than that, service was good and attentive. But the entire dinner took way too long. The chef and others came over to talk to us and explain the dishes, which...
Read moreThe place is really nice and we’ll decorated, prices are fair for the food and the service was really nice and attentive (even if they messed up my reservation at first). The main dishes and desserts were quite tasty but we were a bit disappointed with the starters.
We have order 3 starters but one of them came wrong, the restaurant fixed it offering us for free the wrong one and bringing the right one after. The onion soup was really good, and the pate en croute as well. The beets salad missed some salt and some flavor overall and the wrong started, some sort of poached egg in a jello salad, was really weird as a dish and had no flavor whatsoever…
We shared 2 main dishes: a lasagna and a lamb dish. Both really good and well seasoned. We loved them both.
Finally for dessert we had apple tarte tatin, delicious, a chocolate cream that was really good as well, and the rice pudding that was a bit hard and cooked in too much cream. It had an interesting orange and some olive oil but we didn’t like this last dessert either.
Overall it was a nice place and an ok meal but in a place like Paris with all the options we have as restaurants, it isn’t a place I...
