Really enjoyed dinner here with a friend on a rainy thursday evening in Paris. Being British expats we had to try this place to see if it matched up with our Mums' cooking! I started with the Oysters- the elderflower vinegar was perfect with these, sweet and tart and a welcome change from the usual lemon (though these were served with a lemon wedge too!) Next up, I had the shepherds pie (which was warming and delicious and tasted like home!) and my friend had the beef stew which was also delcious and served with an amazing creamy mash! For pudding it was the apple crumble tart and the ginger loaf. The tart was nice but was completely outshined by the ginger loaf, which may have been one of my favourite deserts ever. The services was good, though our waitress made a couple of small mistakes, she was really quick to fix everything and let us taste a mini version of their basil cocktail at the end- which was amazing!
My only suggestions to improve the experience would be to add more vegetable options to the menu- to have as sides with the food, I had the kale with the shepherds pie and it was nice, but I would have loved to have some broccoli or green beans or something with it, and the same for my friend! But this didn't spoil our meal at all, just would be that extra thing to take it to...
Read moreNow I know why French people hate English food… Quite possibly the worst full English breakfast I’ve ever had in my life. I grew up in the UK. I’ve eaten full English breakfasts at cafes, at Gastro pubs, and even on the P&O ferry. This was worse than all of those. The amount of gristle in the bacon, which was grey by the way, was remarkable. I found myself pulling bits of cartilage out of my mouth mid-meal. The sausage was equally atrocious. Worse even than a Wall’s sausage. The home-made beans were undercooked. They were hard and crunchy. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just use baked beans if it’s to make something resembling this. The eggs were also undercooked, and we were not asked how we would like them. The bread was not served as toast, and it was on the verge of being stale. I’m not a big mushroom fan generally, but these put me off mushroom for a lifetime. All in all, I just can’t understand how a professional chef could get a dish like this so wrong. Perhaps it’s the lack of access to British ingredients? Price 31 euros with black pudding - which wasn’t very good either. I only give two stars because the staff...
Read moreIt’s not often I feel compelled to write a poor review and I don’t typically share my disappointment if it’s minor, but this was a Christmas dinner that left a really bitter taste in my mouth and a bill over €600. For a table of 6, there were only two options for each course, and for what was promised to be a British roast dinner, was bland carrots and sprouts (little seasoning and barely any herbs) dry (over cooked Guinea fowl), waxy potatoes, very small portions and no options for children (we paid €85 for my 4 year old to leave hungry). I wish I had taken a photo of the chestnut soup that was approximately 5mm deep in the bowl.
I appreciate the cost of running a restaurant in 2024 is challenging and staffing this on Christmas would come at a cost, but the owner told us they’d already served 250 dishes that day and then proceeded to let in a tour group of 30+ guests. You can do the math.
What we had promised our family was a home away from home meal and what we paid a fortune for was sadly something that more like a tourist trap. Extremely...
