I would give Bodega 64 five stars except for two factors: First, I am no expert on tapas so am not in a position to judge the offerings against other tapas establishments. Second, while I am vegetarian 99% of the time (and exclude seafood from my diet,) I was a guest of my son's girlfriend, who is from Galicia and certainly knows her tapas. She rates this place one of the best outside of Spain, so that would seem to place it four stars out of five, right?
Our host and son made the menu choices and to be honest I only remember the calamari dish, razor clams but not so much the other two. But the calamari was excellent! My experience with calamari has been limited but slightly on the disappointing side. This calamari was extremely tender and flavourful, easily the best I've had.
The razor clams were flavourful and well prepared except for a bit of sand, which I understand is difficult to fully eliminate.
For drinks I chose a margarita, but received a mojito! The mojito was quite good, though not the best I have ever had. When I ordered a second drink I asked for "a margarita this time." The waiter start to say "This was a margari ..." then stopped short when he examined the empty glass -- it was a hilarious exclamation point to the evening and indicative of the friendly-casual and pleasant service.
All-in-all we had a great evening. I recommended it to a couple from Los Angeles that I met a day or so later who were also staying in the Marais, and they eagerly wrote down the name so they could go.
As a tapas non-expert, I would rate La Bodega 64 five stars and would not...
Read moreWe went there a week ago for a friends birthday (group of 10). The food is great especially the Jamon croquetas and the pain perdu. The sangria was good too. Unlike most Spanish restaurants I do not recommend the house wine. We didn’t like it. We had a great time but the only reason why I didn’t give it a 5 stars is before they kicked us out 30 min before closing time even if on google maps says they close at 1am on Fridays. The waiter was nice and accommodating but the waitress a bit rude. Finally parking is super difficult at night. Overall great time. I will come...
Read moreStopped in before a meal for a couple of pints and absolutely loved the vibe. Would gladly have stayed if we didn't have a reservation, and fully intended to go back after dinner but we were too stuffed! Staff were really friendly, the bar was full but they offered to let us sit at a reserved table until the other people turned up, but we managed to grab a seat at the bar. Nice white beer on called Belzebuth Blanche, which I really enjoyed. We will definitely be returning next time we're in Paris as the food and sangria...
