We were refused service after requesting to switch tables.
We chose this restaurant because the menu was appetizing and the restaurant was full. After waiting for 10 mins we got seated outside at the end table. As soon as we sat down our seater and another staff (later found out here might be the decision maker there) were smoking in the smoking area which was right outside the restaurant. So we decided we would ask to switch to another table. My husband went inside and found another staff who said it was okay to move inside (there were available tables). Then we left our table and waited to be seated again. When the nice staff came out to get us, the original seater came and told him that the tables inside were not available, he could confirm with the other staff (the one that he was smoking with). Then he told us we couldn't seat inside. And because we left our table, they seated others at our previous table. And he said, "Sorry, there were no tables". We left after we were refused service.
I found the staff unreasonably ill-tempered and undeniably discriminatory against tourist. We ended up eating at Le Lutetia down the street and they definitely treated their customers with professionalism...
Read moreIm not sure I understand most reviews in here. What I know for sure is that in France, customer service is bad most of the time. They're not always at ease speaking English. Make sure you establish a human connection with staff, look them in the eye, smile, ask maybe for advice on the wine and it will make a tremendous difference in that side. Regardless of that : let's talk FOOD.
Im a french local and I take foreigners here quite often because the meals are AMAZING value, featuring a lot of well done french classics. Usually a bit above 20€ for a full course.
It is very cheap and very good, everybody I know has always been very satisfied (mostly foreign friends). The view is great if it's a nice day out, you're on an island on the Seine and Notre Dame Cathedral !
Heavily recommending the escargots (some of the best I ever had) or the onion soup as an appetizer. Can vouch for Coq au Vin and magret de Canard for main dish. For desert, crêpe Suzette is delicious. Creme brulee is not always so good (should be warm and crunchy on top, cooler on the bottom).
Otherwise, walk around and grab Bertillon Ice cream from one of the parlors : you won't be...
Read moreWe didn't dine here but we came in for a quick drink while strolling the neighborhood. There are three other cafes all within meters of each other but we chose this one because it was cute, less crowded and had a sign for Vin chaud for €6,50. We walked in to the enclosed outdoor patio and was greeted by an upbeat and friendly French waiter. We asked if we can sit in the outdoor patio area just for drinks because apparently you have to option to be seated indoors in a nicer area if you want to order food.
Even though it was a chilly day, the enclosed patio has heaters running to keep the patrons nice and warm. The patio is a perfect spot for people watching!
Not all waiters here speak English, we had 1 that helped us who did not speak English and had to grab another to help translate. But they were all very friendly and helpful.
The beau and I ordered the vin chaud (hot wine) which is made with fruit and cinnamon. Basically like a warm sangria which is perfect for a cold day! It was sooooooo good I wanted to...
