We had dinner here yesterday with my man. I have been living 6 years in Paris and normally avoid this area but was invited and hungry.
For the starter we had a 22 € costing sardine plate to " share ". It had three quite small pieces of old toasted bread, little bowl with like 3 small spoons of tasteless onion herb condiment and butter on the side... And then the "mighty" sardine can just opened like that. No taste, no effort, just making you pay and using the lack of knowledge of tourists. I don't appreciate this mentality.
For the plate we had the octopus with tomato condiments and fish with lemon sauce. Both dishes came with "generous" rice bowl. Which makes you full and most clients don't complain because of this. The rice was also badly and long time ago cooked and stuffed tight in a bowl and re-heated.
The octopus was clearly old and it was chewy and hard to cut. Honestly I don't know what had been done to it. The fish was overcooked and also so tasteless. Today I had upset stomach and I threw up twice. I do not know if it was because of this restaurant, I truly hope not but this was our experience. Also there was not even a basket of bread on the side, which you will get in almost every Parisian brasserie. Anyways...
Out waiter was efficace and sweet which I appreciated. Best of luck and please don't take advantage of the tourists... Vive la France...
Read moreWe had a horrific travel day filled with delays and issues getting to the city. By the time we got to our hotel, we were 5 hours behind schedule, tired, and the kind of hungry where you could eat your own shoe if you had to.
We missed the reservation we had planned because of our flight delays. I saw this on Google during my trip planning. I knew it was open later and we didn't need a reservation. We got an Uber and headed to Le Saint Regis. We walked right in and got a nice table for 2 along the wall inside. The candlelit classic Paris vibe, paired with the quiet street overlooking Isle de Cite had us instantly feel at peace. We ordered the onion soup to start and this went straight to our soul. Oh my goodness, it was perfect. My wife got Eggs Benedict, and I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. This meal rejuvenated us from a really rough day of travel. We talk about how we think it saved our trip! The burger was so dang good. And the sauce that came on the side of the burger (seemed like relish and french dressing) was better than any burger sauce like it. We scarfed down every bite. The drink my wife had was great too. The vibe, the street, plus the good food I think is everything a tourist is looking for in Paris. Especially when you need a place without a reservation, or a little bit later in the evening (we went at 10pm and...
Read moreI have just had a meal in this Brasserie (26 February) after it was recommended by the airb&b owner of the property I am staying at. However despite coming frequently to Paris, I have never experienced such rudeness as shown by the waiter who served me. I am trying to learn French and therefore asked for everything in French to which every response by the waiter was given in English and he effectively made me repeat all my requests in English. At the end of the meal I asked for 'l'addition' and said I was trying to learn French, to which the response was "Yes, but I don't have time to speak French with you, we are busy, that's why I speak English". I left really upset. I think I was unlucky as I did not see the the other waiters treat their customers with such disdain, and actually the other waiters seemed interested in their customers to the point that one waiter was spending time finding how their customer's day had gone and remembered them from previous times. Unfortunately the treatment I experienced from the waiter I had, would put me off ever returning to this restaurant. If you want to be polite and make an effort to try and speak French when in Paris, this is not the place to do it! I hope other customers are treated...
