If it was only for the customer service I would give a huge zero. I ordered 4 cakes and due to the fact that one was for a present for a friend, I had 2 hazelnuts in my order. Unfortunately the circumstances changed and I was unable to pass the gift to my bf, so a week before i tried to change the order not to end up myself with 2 exact same cakes. In vain, on the website it was already blocked for any changes, and while calling nobody ever picked up. So I asked nicely the woman to exchange the cake once i came to pick them up, as for sale they still had full variety and the only answer I got was "no, we dont exchange". When I commented that it doesn´t seem very nice seeing that they have still plenty of others for people in the queue and they will sell mine in 5 min, a guy came to "support" the girls, and this one was obnoxious and rude, including remarks like " if you didnt want it why did you buy it". Really guys, you dont make any honour to your customers that you let them buy your produce, do some self reflection.
Now to the cakes: the form, very pretty, elegant, the boxes they packed them in re really beautiful and classy. The taste? Good. And that is it, just good, nothing more. Yuzu tastes like intensified yuzu fruit, hazelnut basically like a crunchy nutella, and mango (the worst of all i ordered) like a very washed down flavour of the mango fruit. Coriander heart? Totally not present in the taste. No complexity of flavours, no layers of taste that would develop on the palate, no original and interesting pairings. Just a taste of a good cake like in multitude of other pastry shops. When I buy a pastry for 18 EUR, I expect it to be art in terms of both form and flavour, I expect to taste combination of flavours that are bold and original. Here we simply have great craft as the form is amazing, but it is not an art.
It is definitely the SM fame that Cedric Grolet basis on his offer. Clients who will queue to taste his trompe d´oeuils when visiting Paris and wont come back again. Hence deeply disrespectful treatment. For this price I recommend genuine Paris pastry kings, who have been on the market for years and eating at their cafes is a real luxury experience: Pierre Herme, Cyril Lignac or Sadaharu Aoki.
For me hugre dissapointment and definitely never...

The people I dealt with were completely careless towards the mistake in my order. We got the macadamia tart only to find out that the filling in the crust is peanut. Now you can imagine we have all tasted peanuts/peanut butter and know how incredibly different it tastes from macadamia! Not to mention we have literally bought the macadamia trompe oeil before so really we’re not stupid here … and yet that is exactly how the customer service team made us feel when we reached out to them to let them know of the mistake in our order. They replied “it’s not peanut madame it’s macadamia like the website says” and proceeded to enumerate all the ingredients. Mind you I had photos attached where you could clearly see the dark colour of the filling resembling more of the peanut’s. When I followed up with them to explain myself further like “yes I know the website says that I’m not stupid I know what peanut butter tastes like” type of vibe, they ghosted me!
The peanut layer had completely overpowered the delicate macadamia layers and it was such a shame for the price tag. Also we were literally a few people eating the tart and it was blatantly obvious for all of us when we were eating the peanut layer vs the macadamia ones. There are countless other photos and videos online of people eating this tart, and it’s clear that the color is noticeably off—so much so that it’s hard to believe customer service wouldn’t have noticed… this was pure negligence.
So dear Cédric, your pastries are amazing but your customer service team unfortunately doesn’t reflect that standard.
For reference, if whoever is reading this at all cares to rectify this situation, my order number...
Read moreAs a pastry student I was curious and wanted to try his pastries for a while because of the hype and also bc many people said it wasn't worth it. And, it actually wasn't. Everything was small ! So small for the price ! I took the strawberry and the pecan nuts + a pistachio cookie. The two cream entremet were bland. The strawberry puree was tasteless, it tasted like strawberry water, no sugar no vanilla, too liquid, no flavor. For the pecan one, the praliné was too salty and the cream too liquid, and again, sugarless. But it wasn't the worst. The two were just cream covered with white chocolate, not much texture, just air. It was a air cake. The pistachio cookie was too much, too sweet, too fat, the praliné was good but it didn't worth 25€ (but it was the best in all 3 cakes) It seems that he only worked on the visual and forgot that he was making FOOD to be EATEN and not (just) looked at ! He forgot his first job ! He his kind of the David Michigan of pastry, a lot of followers but where is the real magic ? I'm not saying there isn't any work behind this but mostly things to show on the social media and an amazing communication team (I hope he pay them well bc they did an amazing work) I was so disappointed and angry that someone could do that to ppl? The entremet were literally EMPTY ! How can you sell something like that for 17€ ?? How is this not a scandal yet? Tourist, don't go, there is so much better places to go if you want great expensive (but...
