As a small business owner I want to personally thank a few members of the Hotel Mayfair for refreshing my understanding of how to NOT treat one's customers. We had a horrible experience when checking out of this hotel. The hotel staff embarrassed us in front of other guest and we're insinuating we were cheap because of a mistake caused by their staff's own incompetence. I would advise anyone that is interested in staying at the Hotel Mayfair to find one of the many other options in Paris.
We contacted a staff member on Monday to ask about bringing our child to stay Friday that week, I confirmed with the gentlemen that we wanted a room with breakfast (12 euros in advance), the gentleman told me he would respond that evening with a confirmation. Several hours went by and we called and spoke with the gentleman again and he reiterated he would send the confirmation. 24 hours past and we called again and we were assured once again we would get a confirmation for our Friday arrival. At this point we considered booking at two other establishments near the Mayfair, but unfortunately trusted the man's word and continued waiting. Finally, Wednesday (nearly 48 hours later) we received the confirmation.
Unbeknownst to us, the gentlemen mistakenly believed we didn't want breakfast, this detail was within an attachment in the email that we hadn't seen. Upon checking in no one advised us our breakfast was not included, upon ordering breakfast none of the staff informed us breakfast had not been included. Both of these practices are common in every other city in Europe, and even in other hotels I've stayed in Paris.
At any rate, upon check out I noticed our bill included the wrong room charge and the full breakfast charge (25 Euros per person). I pointed out the mistake to the same gentleman I spoke with over the phone and his response was to tell me I ordered a room without breakfast. I was shocked and tried explaining to the man that it was a mistake in understanding and that I did indeed order breakfast with our stay. When challenged, raising his voice at me, I was able to on the spot quote the price of the room on line and that he quoted me with breakfast without checking and they still said the issue was MY mistake.
After arguing repeatedly for a half an hour with the male staff member and his boss, including several comments that indicated we were just "cheap Americans" trying to rip them off, they finally relented and gave us the same price I was quoted BEFORE I booked. I would have rated my stay a four or five prior to this experience yet the whole situation was so embarrassing and flat out rude, that I am giving this establishment a 1 in place of a zero that I can not give. I will never stay at this hotel again, what a horrible way to treat ones CUSTOMERS. I will definitely contact the GM and complain about the two horrible staff members I interacted with, they should be terminated if the hotel plans on maintaining future guest.
If you want to experience embarrassment and harassment at 350 euros per night this is the place for you, otherwise stay at one of the thousand of other options in Paris where you will be treated with...
Read moreA Terrible Experience at this hotel: We booked a 4-night stay at this hotel for €2,100 but didn’t spend a single night there. Here’s what we went through: Unwelcoming service The lobby reality sharply contrasted with the website's portrayal of a spacious, bright area with friendly staff. What we actually encountered was a cramped space where staff stared at customers until we approached to inquire about check-in. Unacceptable Room Conditions Our family suite's "window" faced a solid wall, offering no ventilation. Given the situation that the room already had an unpleasant smell that made us feel uncomfortable, we asked for assistance to improve air quality, but the staff merely suggested keeping the windows open, an impractical solution given the freezing temperatures. They explained that their air conditioning system was only operational during the summer months. Additionally, we noted the complete absence of windows in the hallway. Outdated and Inconvenient Policies The hotel has a Key for every room and asks the customer to leave the key at the reception every time they leave the hotel, and ask for it every time when they return. Which is very inconvenient and their staff emphasizing the €25 key value sounds funny. Let alone mention their charges for refilling water or coffee capsules. Unprofessional Management Response We reached out to management, seeking a better solution. However, their response was unsatisfactory, as they displayed an arrogant attitude. This left us with no choice but to check out. And then, we noticed that the room inspection was carried out the day after we checked out, and our specific concerns were not addressed. In fact, rather than providing substantive answers to our inquiries, the management chose to emphasize the hotel's historical standing and questioned the validity of our feedback. And as a matter of fact, we found out that this hotel appears to routinely dismiss negative reviews as "dishonest". And the question is, why would we choose to be dishonest guests and forfeit our stay, along with the €2,100 non-refundable reservation, which is not in our interest? As customers, we have the right to provide honest evaluations of the services we received.
The only aspect of this hotel that might be considered good is its location. However, considering the amount of money, there were far better options available to us. We’d like people to be cautious when considering this hotel. Don't let it spoil...
Read moreWe were there for four nights as a couple. This was a once in a blue moon trip for my partner and I to get away together so I'm disappointed by our experience overall but there were some good points too and I'll start with those.
The staff were all helpful and smiling. The location is amazing and probably the best attribute because it's on line 1 and so easy to get to and from Gare de Lyon. I happen to like the decor. I find it charming and the size of the rooms was also nice. I knew this because I've stayed one night before but quite a few years ago.
The bad points are these: the location is across the street from the back of the Westing and they make a lot of trash noise early in the morning. We were on the 1st floor and could hear it all We could hear/feel the subway under us every few minutes in the quiet of the morning. It must be a lot less noticeable on the higher floors I imagine. The second night or 3rd night we were there the fire alarm went off a little after midnight. I was in a dead sleep and right as I finally got dressed and was heading down the alarms stopped. There was NO justification or apology given at the hotel, no note to explain or anything. I asked at the breakfast and the server said he was sorry but he wasn't there so he didn't know. The rooms were not fully cleaned and restocked each day. They left the dirty coffee cups and didn't replenish the coffee. The key was very annoying! If there's a customer ahead in line you have to wait to get your room key The biggest complaint is about the breakfast which was unacceptable. Your hotel is in France, capital of all things fromage! Why for the love of all that's holy do you serve industrial cheese to your customers? I can get kiri and baby bel from Monoprix. In Paris at a nice hotel from breakfast, I want real cheese, not the fake stuff. The breads looked awful too, we didn't even have them. And finally the coffee comes from a machine maybe one step up from nespresso, but it should be hand made with a real machine. People coming to Europe expect this. They don't expect to pay 30 euros for absolute garbage. Sorry but this is not the place to try...
