Truly a 0/5 Stars.
Le Coq et Fils fell short in every single way imaginable. This review is nothing I take lightly as it my first Google review for a restaurant that I sincerely had high expectations based on the recommendations of restauranteurs & the farmers/purveyors that I respect.
First, critiques on the wine service. There was no attention to detail on temperature control. Champagne BdB was at room temperature and served in flutes. Second service of Aligoté and Gamay was rushed in terms of ordering by server before we finished and before we ordered food. Upon serving, both were room temp as well.
Secondly the food - the hardest and most upsetting thing to write about. The Seasonal Vegetables, which we were excited for to pair with entrees, par boiled, were served as cold mirepoix with some Cauliflower, sans salt.
Entrees were Roasted Quarter Con Nu Breed & Grande Pre Quail. Roasted Quarter was beyond dry that it’s jus did nothing to provide moisture. Extremely over salted as well.
Quail - wasn’t overcooked, which gave a glimmer of hope. But that pleasure did come to fruition as the Schniederspaetle and reduction were so over salted, they were unbeatable.
The two of us were not comfortable finishing the plates as the fruit flys were horrendous and killed our appetite for dessert and digestif.
By no means am I going after the wait staff - he did his job to make sure we were comfortable but the system fell short on him then in turn, us, the consumer. A full top down failure which is embarrassing, through and through. The two of us were the only table in the servers section with a 7pm reservation.
Beyond this review, we were not the only disappointed table. A table of 4 was in the next section to us and they shared the same disapproval with us and confronted the MOD. No resolution came of this besides our shared frustration.
What hurts the most is knowing the farmers and purveyors, which they state their names and praise the work with on their menus, have such a high level of attention to detail in their practices. Their hard work and heritage practices are not being held to their own ethos.
This was an extreme failure. Please for anyone who takes the time to read through all of this, there are many more places to dine that is worth...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant based on the wildly high reviews and critics and personal testimonies about this 100 EUR chicken, acclaimed as the best chicken you’ll be eating. We were welcome by the wait staff as the one of the first customers of the day since we arrived early around 12:15pm. Sat down and were offered the menu with recommendations on the starters. We tried the Œuf à la coque and the foie gras, which were delicious, and pretty unique. As we were finishing our appetizers, the long large table we were sitting at started filling up with about another 12 customers. We waited for the all anticipated 100EUR chicken to come along, but never saw it. The other customers received their starters, wine, AND chicken! As most of them are about to finish their chicken, my friend started losing his patience and asked for the check. The chef was the one who brought out the chicken and to have it take pictures and spend time to with clients. When the waitress was alarmed that we wanted to leave after sitting there the whole time and stared at our empty plates, she ran out to check on our order. The chef came in the dropped the chicken and fries and left without a word. Then the waitress came and apologized for the (long) delay. Now the review on the chicken, since we came here for the damn bird itself and not the chef or his rudeness. When you pay for 100EUR chicken (50 EUR for half a bird) you’ll expect something of mind blowing. You’d be wrong! The chicken was almost dry, barely seasoned to the almost bland tasting chicken. What saved it was the sauce that came with it, some sort of “Au jus” sauce which was tasty enough to bury the blandness. I don’t know if that the intent of the renowned chef, but I can tell you you could get a better chicken at many brasseries in Paris more specifically at Porte Saint Cloud or some 15 EUR rotisserie of a store at Rue Montorgueil. Quite a disappointment for a 100EUR bird! The waitress and waiting staff were wonderful though. We take issue only with the chef who decided who gets to eat his own creation first. Whether it’s the late all French or British customers or the poor Asians, who deserved...
Read moreWe came here as a last minute decision due to the restaurant we booked being overcrowded and running very behind, they found us a table very quickly which was amazing because we were starving by this point.
We realised the prices were quite high once seated but thought we’d treat ourselves as we’re on holiday and expected the food was worth it. The waitress came to take our order and the table next to us had recommended the Guinea Fowl so we ordered that with the 4 sides it came with; mash, salad, root vegetables and mushrooms. The sides came out very quickly, we had a glass of delicious wine to accompany our meal…we then waited another approx 30-40mins for the rest of the meal to arrive while our sides had gone cold. At this point, with no sign of the main part of our meal, the restaurant manager came to ask if we were waiting for anything else, which to me, seems a silly question at 10:30pm as our side dishes sat untouched! They checked our order and the Guinea Fowl hadn’t even been put in by the waitress and of course now they had run out so they offered us chicken instead. We were pretty desperately hungry by now so reluctantly agreed, we had been looking forward to trying something new as chicken is something we could easily do ourselves. They reheated our sides, the chicken finally came and we were SO DISAPPOINTED! It was lacking in flavour, really chewy and just generally not what we had wanted at all. I think it was obvious that we weren’t happy when they came to check because we said it was just ‘OK’ but they didn’t seem to care.
When the bill came we were really surprised that they hadn’t even offered to comp at least 1 of our glasses of wine for the several inconveniences we experienced. This would have gone a long way in making us feel slightly better about paying €160 for a substantially late meal we hadn’t initially chosen and didn’t enjoy.
All in all I think if we had at least gotten the meat we’d ordered OR they service had been better we would have been happier but we left feeling disappointed at the whole experience and generally a little upset...
