After a pleasant day in Montmarte and having amazing experiences at breakfast & lunch earlier, we wanted to end the day at a highly recommended restaurant - Le Moulin de la Galette. However, I have never been more disrespected by a restaurant manager in my life.
My group of 16 is visiting Paris & when we tried making the reservations online over a week ago, our party size was too large for the restaurant to accommodate. So to make it easier, I decided to make separate reservations of 5 and 11 people - separating the kids from the parents so that the staff wouldn’t have to stress about seating us all together.
When we arrived, the manager (Caroline) asked who made the reservations so of course I said it was me. She proceeded to yell at me in front of the whole entire restaurant (which was packed by the way) about how normally they don’t accept a party of 16 because it’s very difficult to accommodate that many people & that I should’ve made the reservation a week before.
Again … I made both reservations OVER A WEEK AGO If you cannot accommodate a party of 11 - then why is that an option online??
I explained MULTIPLE times that the reason I made separate reservations was so that we wouldn’t have to be sat together, but this person was just foaming at the mouth & going in circles. When she finally acknowledged what I had been repeatedly telling her, she said “We have to service you as best as we can to give you a better experience” (which is ironic with how bad of a first impressions she was giving). Eventually, the first conversation ended with her saying she can seat us separately - which is LITERALLY what I was trying to say to her the entire time. Not to mention, other guests & staff members have been staring at the whole encounter.
After dinner, I decided to confront the manager about her behavior. I said “I wanted to let you know that yelling at me in front of the whole restaurant was disrespectful & unprofessional. There was a better way of handling the situation & I hope you don’t treat your staff like you do your guests.” She continued her same belligerent & dismissive spiel as before of not being able to seat us all together & that she only had two options :
To either call me & say that they couldn’t accommodate our party or Do her best to fit us all together on a busy night
I told her that that was the issue - she was in the wrong for assuming. I also pointed out that for clarification I did make the reservation a week in advanced like she so desperately wanted, yet all she could respond with was an insincere apology. I explained that we are not from Paris & that we will not be visiting Moulin de la Galette again.
The food was amazing and our server was very pleasant. However, if we were to ever to be back in Paris I will not be returning to this restaurant solely because of my experience with...
Read moreOne of the rudest service I've met so far since 2012. I thought the service has improved, I guess not.
Waiter is arrogant, rude, no patience and sarcastically lame.
6 pax booked for dinner Came to us less than 5 mins when we just seated down. Rushed us to take orders With such a short time, we did not study the whole menu yet so we to thought maybe we order the main course first so we can take a look at the rest of the menu.
Waiter says: I CANNOT WORK THIS WAY, in this actual words. You have to give the appetiser first then then main course.
We have yet read the appetizer so we asked for recommendations then ordered 2 appraisers and finally was able to place the main course orders.
5 pax ordered but 1 have not made up her mind, so right away he said " so you are not ready to take orders then"?
So we placed orders for 5 and moved so he can stop making us all of us uncomfortable with his impatience and sacastism.
Then 5 mins later, we asked him for a menu as one of the mothers in our group like to order something else. So we asked, "can we have the menu please", this time round he replied to us that gave all of us a shocked,
I cannot allow you to place the menu on the table as you will be eating and the menu will be in the way so you can only have the menu here (tapping the side of the table).
We were dumb founded, shocked and amazed at his rudness, illogical assumptions and lack of EQ towards his customers.
What part of our English tells him we want the menu on the table. We only want to order. So one of the mothers said to him, it will be in my hand, not on the table
This waiter is really really amazingly rude to the core. Seriously, do customers really have to go thru such in restaurant experience.
Disappointed Singaporeans.
On top of that, the food isn't as great as what the review says. Yes the prawn risotto is ok, the Lamb's gamey taste is little too strong for our liking, so so only i guess. The escargot were surprisingly small in size.
All in all, not like the food is so great that it is worthy enough to take their rudeness. Not worth it.
If there was no negative incident tonight, we also will not return for the food. There are many better places to return to within Paris. The rave is not...
Read moreAs a 1st time visitor to Paris, I spent weeks prior looking for somewhere to dine as I was going to celebrate my 50th birthday there. I used google maps to outline journeys from one point to another to establish how far we’d have to travel etc. Hotel location was perfect with transport links nearby and this restaurant was one I chose. Initially the menu excited me, and one of my parties was vegetarian so I had to be selective to ensure he would have many options as well. Well I cannot express enough how amazing this dining experience was. Our waiter was Usman (not sure how spelt) who at first I think the pressure of how busy it was, saw him being a little annoyed with us not making up our minds on a certain dish when we ordering but after my husband had a little chat with him (a stern one), he became our friend for the rest of the evening. And I seriously need to thank him for making my birth night dinner a real long lasting memory. I was surprised with a chocolate soufflé dessert and crepes with sparklers and they put music onto the speaker where the whole restaurant got involved in clapping and singing. What an absolute treat… the food was amazing…!!! The linguine you’d think it’s just linguine but uh uh, the linguine with salmon (my gosh)……we also had cuts of steak/meat and my husband and I were in our glory. The peppercorn sauce was just right as sometimes I find restaurants prepare them a bit too salty but this was perfect. I am a fried lover so even what you’d see to be ordinary fries, they were crisp on the outside soft and fluffy on the inside. The location once you get there is so beautiful……..we used public transport but the stroll on the hills to get there through cobbled streets was all part of this lovely memory. I know there are many other places to eat in Paris but when we visit again (oh and we will), I am definitely dining here again. Thumbs up to our waiter, the chef/s, and management...
