WONDERFUL!!! :D So good, that I booked a table for Saturday halfway through our first meal, and saved my review for later, to be sure. Service is first rate, absolutely marvellous. Food is spectacular. Atmosphere is totally original, easy-going & charming! There was only one mild disappointment, and that was my main plate on the second visit (the racasse on the daily sheet: it was technically fine, just comparatively dull (simple, pure) compared to other dishes here!). But it was perfectly cooked. Everything else was "wow"-inducing! I had a cod the first night that I'll never forget, my partner the duck (delicious!). On the 2nd visit my partner had the lamb and said he had never had better! Desserts were awesome - I asked our server which the best was ("Mont Blanc"), and absolutely loved it! The second time, I asked for another recommendation: "Mimi" peanut cream puffs. I would not have tried these otherwise, and they were simply delicious! I am so glad that she suggested it! My partner stuck to the daily specials (sauteed figs one night, mirabelle the next) and raved about both). We will DEFINITELY return the next time we are in Paris - it is my favourite restaurant in the city (in Rome, it's Armando el Pantheon, a tip if you have the same tastes as I do!). Don't miss Le Petit Rétro for a stylish, easy, tasty evening. It's very close to the Victor Hugo Metro station, and also on the same street as La Coïncidence, which we also enjoyed. A...
Read moreTOURIST TRAP. Located near all the top tourist locations, Le Petit Retro is a terrible excuse for French cuisine. Completely Americanized. Food was terrible. Service was rushed.
My husband and I arrived for our reservation speaking in french and were responded to in english. We were given english menus. We had two servers. They were hovering during our entire meal, and you could tell they wanted to get us in and out. We felt rushed to put in our orders, not typical in France. We ordered starters, main courses, and couldn't bring ourselves to order dessert because the experience was so uncomfortable, and the food was the worst we had during our 2 week stay. For starters, I had the ravioli and my husband had the chicken liver. My ravioli reminded me of mass produced, frozen ravioli found in your local Sam's Club in America. Salted to extreme, and lukewarm. My husband's chicken liver tasted exactly how wet cat food smells. For the main course, my husband ordered the veal stew, but he was given the veal kidney. I ordered a chicken. It was unremarkable. They served us with side dishes. The potatoes had to be instant potato flakes. I very rarely write negative reviews, but I was so disappointed. I would hate for someone else to ruin a trip to Paris with this pitiful excuse for...
Read moreWhat an amazing find by pure chance. A few weeks ago 8 colleagues and I were in Paris and we needed somewhere close to our accommodation one night for dinner. From the moment we arrived outside looking in, we knew this was going to be a very authentic French experience. It looked like we were stepping back in time to a genuine traditional French restaurant. We were greeted by such a friendly waiter who ended up looking after our table for the night - he helped make a truely special night. The food was sensational, and the whole experience was fantastic. We tried to book again a few nights later but fully booked. I would suggest you...
