I was on my way to find couscous in Île Saint-Louis! I've walked by Thiossane before but they were closed. This time, they were open so I decided to take a chance đŸŽČ. The place is beautifully decorated with African art and paintings lining the wall: it oozes a certain kind of Senegalese calm and Teranga. There was no music playing, which was nice and didn't feel awkward. I had the Senegalese national dish (I grew up eating this): thiebou dieun rouge, a dish in the UNESCO World Heritage! It's rice cooked in a fish stew, with vegetables. As expected from Senegalese cuisine, the dish was flavorful and well-seasoned. The vegetables, in particular, came with a nice red sauce (matiaat) that really makes it come together. The vegetables include manioc, carrots, okra, aubergine, cauliflower. As the place filled up, I could see that other people's dishes also had a very nice presentation, similar to mine. P.S.: "Thiossane" in Wolof roughly means nostalgia for good old times. As a drink, I'd recommend you try the Senegalese fruit juices if you haven't before: bissap (hibiscus), bouye (baobab fruit), ditakh (very unique, look it up 😅, rare to find outside Senegal). How do I know the place is legit? đŸ€” We Africans are hard to please when it comes to food from our countries: by the time I finished eating, more than half the people sitting were from Senegal. I had the ginger, with orange blossom water, ananas it seems, water and sugar. It's hot/spicy đŸ”„! Watch out! Pro tip: order the bissap and mix it with some ginger to take the edge 📮.

On some occasions- I cannot help but write a review!! 😍 It was my first time trying African cuisine and the taste, the ambiance, the staff - everything was perfect!! The staff was so friendly and the portion size were huge and generous and everything was super tasty!! Totally recommended - this restaurant is a gem!! Things I 10/10 recommend: For entree - Nems poulet - Pataya with viande For main - Grilled Dorade - Grilled Demi Poulet And the vanilla home-made icecream felt like a hug 💕 and do try the Bissap Mojito it was a nice twist to traditional Bissap!! 😋 Can’t wait to go back!!
