Expensive place, cheap service. (And beware of foreign items in your food).
Went there for a cake and coffee with my wife. Looked like a nice little place, but, we´ve discovered a small piece of transparent plastic in my wife’s cake (~3mm x 10mm), which did not appear to be part of the wrapping and was actually inside the cake. It was a small cylindrical cake with berries on top, for 6€ if you consume inside. I told the staff about it and the following conversation took place:
I: I am sorry, but there appears to be a little problem - we’ve found this foreign object in my wife’s cake. Staff: Where was it? I: It was inside the cake, and it does not appear to be a part of the packaging. Staff: [takes the piece, looks at it and discards it] I: [standing there waiting to see what they’ll do] . . . Staff: What do you want me to do about it? I: Maybe it’s possible to get a refund for the cake? My wife doesn’t want to eat it. Staff: No, it’s not possible to refund the whole cake. Half the cake. . . I: In that case, we don’t want anything. . .
Then we left.
So, they actually offered to refund half(!) of the cake, which had plastic trash in it. . . Nice. . . 😟 Maybe they thought we were trying to scam them, like in the movies, I don’t know. Obviously, I would most certainly not recommend this establishment after the above mentioned service. Your experience...
Read moreAVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Horribly rude nasty workers. Pastries are meh at best…dried out and looked way better than they tasted. I bought two pastries and a drink for take out and when I got outside my husband said “let’s just eat them here”. There were plenty of free tables so we sat and I went inside to ask for a fork. The elderly woman working the register gave me two wooden mini spoons (the kind you get with those little cups of ice cream). My husband thought it was difficult to use to eat a pastry so he went inside to ask for an actual fork. The elderly woman wouldn’t give him one and kept saying “too expensive”. We thought perhaps that she thought we wanted to take their forks back to the hotel and so he kindly explained that we changed our minds and decided to eat there. He pointed to where we were sitting so she could see. A younger male worker with a beard and glasses decided to jump into the conversation and also said “too expensive” and got very heated with my husband. My husband said “i guess we won’t be returning here” and the workers could care less. We were literally dumbfounded by the whole exchange. It was completely unnecessary and devoid of even a bare minimum of customer service. It was also embarrassing as this happened in front of other customers who were watching...
Read moreMiss Manon is a local boulangerie on the corner of Rue Saint Antoine and Rue Saint-Paul in the Le Marais area of Paris. They open up early at 6.30 am each morning, making this convenient choice for those seeking an early light bite before big days of sightseeing around Paris.
We stayed in an area hotel and had breakfast at Miss Manon, taking a Chorizo Quiche and almond croissant along with coffees. The quiche was savoury and tasted rather good. The croissant was just ok, we'd opt for something different next time. Coffee drinks were just fine.
Service was direct with hints of being deliberately unfriendly. The lady at the counter was not too pleased at the non-French speakers placing orders in English of which we were not the only ones. Oh well! Seating was typical of a neighbourhood bakery, nothing fancy, just a casual place with comfortable enough seats for a quick bite to eat.
In the end, not a memorable visit - just an available early morning option. We'd stop by here again when convenient but would be open to trying other options...
