Noir — Restaurant in Paris

Could this be racial discrimination that only Asians experience? I have been living in Paris for over two years and have visited many Noir Coffee locations throughout the city. Of course, this is my first time at this particular location. Even when ordering cold drinks, I was always given a coaster with my coffee. However, this place was different. Despite ordering my coffee politely, I was the only one who received coffee in a water cup, without a coaster. Of course, not having a coaster and drinking coffee from a water cup doesn’t change the taste of the coffee, but I feel uncomfortable because I paid for a service that includes these basic elements, and yet I received different treatment. When I was leaving, due to the large crowd, I politely wrote down my thoughts on a notepad and showed it to the staff. They told me they couldn’t provide a coaster because of the cold drink, and that’s why they served it in a water cup. I don’t understand. I went to quite a few specialty coffee shops in Paris on this visit, and this was my favorite! I went back to this location and one other location at least 3 times during my 5 day visit to Paris.

Noir was founded by the current French barista champion (I think). So if that says anything about its quality. They also do an amazing job at being consistent across their locations.

If you care about specialty coffee and good smooth espresso, go here. It was so buttery and sweet. Maybe it was the milk, maybe it was the espresso. Regardless, they know how to make a cappuccino! So frickin’ good.

I am really particular about my coffee. Not in a picky drinker kind of way, but in an “I care about good quality coffee” kind of way. I’m not just gonna give out 5 stars because it’s cute or because they have iced lattes. In fact one barista here got snarky when an American girl asked for an iced latte.
