My wife and I stayed at the Melia Paris Vendome for three nights on the first leg of our honeymoon, and from the moment we stepped into the hotel we were impressed.
First off, the hotel smelled amazing (one of staff members said the fragrance was called 'Blue Velvet') and everything was super clean. The woman at the front desk who helped us check in was very polite and accommodating and even asked us if we preferred to speak in English, French or Spanish. We arrived early in the morning so our room wasn't ready, but they held our bags and contacted us the moment it was.
This being our first time in Paris, we were unsure if we'd picked a convenient spot, but let me tell you the location here is perfect. It's nice and central and located close to so many great restaurants and pastry shops (Angelina, Laduree, Brasserie Flottes, and Bistrot Richelieu are just a few in the immediate vicinity that we managed to check out). It's also right across the street from the Tuileries Garden, and close walking distance to the Louvre and multiple train stations. You can walk everywhere here! While we were waiting for our room, we hiked down the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe and back—took us about an hour and a half round trip and was a great way to get the day started and kill some time.
As for the room itself, it was exactly what we wanted out of a Parisian hotel. Tons of Parisian charm, small but not uncomfortable, with nice views all around. The hotel even gifted us a bottle of champagne and a box of macarons with a personalized note welcoming us on our honeymoon. Such a nice gesture!
Part of our honeymoon package granted us access to their breakfast buffet. It was phenomenal! They had everything we could have asked for—meats, cheeses, eggs, pastries, coffee, tea, cereals, yogurts, fruit, you name it. If, like me, you've only ever experienced continental breakfasts at American hotel chains, you'll be blown away. We didn't even feel bad not exploring other breakfast options around us, the buffet was that good.
Overall, what an incredible experience. Whether it's your first time visiting Paris or you've been here several times, consider giving this hotel a try during...
Read moreFirst, the room and breakfast were amazing. But if you’re like me who don’t know a word of French, the language barrier might cause issues. At first it wasn’t too bad. I asked the front desk if they could explain the silver level benefits for breakfast, as I just reached that level and I didn’t reserved the room with breakfast. I don’t think she understood me well, because she said I could use my points to cover it. I already used my points for another reservation and didn’t have any. Her colleague next to her seemed to understand me, because he explained it’s a 2in1 deal. I would order breakfast for myself and my companion would eat for free. And he told me to let the breakfast attendant know in the morning. Well in the morning, the breakfast attendant tried to get me to sign the tablet during our meal but it wasn’t going through. She asked if we could stop at the front desk. I was going to at check out, but on our way to the elevator she stopped my sister. I only got to her my sister let her know we’re going upstairs to grab some bags and we’ll be down. My sister and I had different flights at different airports. I was going to walk with her to the bus stop and come back to my room. So when we went to the front desk, the first thing I said was “I’m not checking out, but I wanted to take care of breakfast earlier because the tablet wasn’t working”. They knew about the situation already, told us the price and asked for a payment. As I’m walking out with my sister, I did say to her I hope they didn’t think I checked out….well fast forward back in my room, on the toilet, when an employee did come into my room!! So when I did check out two hours later, the front desk told me I was checked out already and I can go. But I’m trying to explain what happened, and I never checked out. She just kept saying “we misunderstood”. Either she wasn’t listening when I told her I wasn’t checking out, or it was a language barrier. It was a weird checkout, but I was still trying to talk, trying to say I took water from the minibar and she just kept cutting me off to say I’m good to go, it just felt like she was trying to...
