My recent experience at Perruche Restaurant left much to be desired, especially as it was part of an annual trip to Paris with my niece. We had high hopes for this upscale dining spot, especially considering our previous reservations at other renowned places like L’Avenue and Kong.
Unfortunately, our experience began on the wrong foot. Our Uber driver dropped us off a block away from the correct location, which added unnecessary stress as we navigated through the area. After a 15-minute search, we finally located the entrance, which was through a mall—something I had thankfully researched beforehand.
Arriving a bit late, we were surprised to find a queue of over 20 people waiting. In the U.S., a reservation is typically held for 15 minutes and upon arrival, you check in and wait to be seated; however, that didn’t seem to apply here. As we hurried to the front, it quickly became evident that many in line did not have reservations. This mixed situation created confusion and anxiety, as it felt like we might lose our spot.
As we waited, I noticed other patrons leaving the line after being informed that there were no tables available. When I inquired about the couple in front of me, they confirmed they had a reservation. However, as tensions grew, a couple behind us accused me of cutting in line, leading to an uncomfortable confrontation. I attempted to diffuse the situation but found myself caught in a frustrating back-and-forth, exacerbated by a language barrier when the staff seated us next to the same couple.
Despite being promised another table, the ongoing chaos and the unwelcoming atmosphere by the same couple led us to make the difficult decision to leave. The view and ambiance, which we had hoped would be worth the wait, simply weren’t enough to compensate for the disorganization and stress we encountered to be checked in and seated.
While I appreciate the effort from the staff who encouraged us to stay, the intake process and overall management of reservations were poorly handled, leaving a sour taste in our mouths. Dining should be a pleasant experience, and unfortunately, our visit to Perruche did not fulfill that expectation as the couple was overly aggressive.
I would recommend potential diners to confirm their reservations and perhaps seek alternative dining locations in Paris, where the experience matches the culinary promise.
I recommend to the restaurant to have a different Intake process for those with reservations and...
Read moreThe outdoor view of Paris skyline is really beautiful. At entry on 9th floor via elevator, I was greeted by a host gentleman in a white shirt with rolled up sleeps above his elbows, thin black tie, and black pants up to his above ankle length with mat black shoes and has no socks. He was very professional and polite to lift the black velvet rope for me to enter the drinking area. I sat in one of the sofa and watched other guests arrived after me, gotten their greetings, and received drinks within 5 minutes. After 3 ignored attempts tried to reach the servers, one of the male server with a black jacket responded with a simple "yes" in English. I'd asked him can I sit in the dining area instead. (I had figured the bar service was so bad with an ice cold attitude with not even a greeting from both servers, as might was well get a lambchop dinner instead, in hoping for better service on the dinner table instead of at the bar area). His ice cold response was a quick "no, that's for eating"; before I can respond, he had already speedily walked away. Ummm... Fine, then I again tried to get one of waiter in white shirt to take my drink order. Again, their eyes saw me and "floated" over my head again and again. So, this is a first encounter for me in a reasonable priced bar in Paris, which on their menu have most drinks averages ER$40 per glass. I had attended many haute couture shows before and thrived well in many velvet roped situations. Most of the time when I was invited to such "exclusive" environments, Parisian service staffs are usually very attentive and professional. Unfortunately these bar staffs were not what I would expected at such a nice place. I had gotten much better services in some restaurants with no Michelin Star in Paris. After a while waiting and no service, I took some aerial photos and walked out without getting anything in this restaurant and went to another nearby Michelin star restaurant instead. There is "always" another haute couture show to attend in Paris and plenty better bar/restaurant to spend my hard earned Euros. After thought, when I sat in the bar area for about 15 minutes. Although ignored by two serving staffs, I did felt bad for them after I saw how hard they’ve tried to please other condescending guests. I'd even considered and thought about to leave the gentleman whom let me in EU$50 for tips. But then, after I saw the servers’ faces right before I stand up...I left them not...

But if you want service that is at least respectable, this is not the place. Some of the slowest, yet chaotic, service we've experienced in our trips to Paris. For example, it took 20 minutes to get a menu - well, try to. When I tried to flag someone down to ask for one, I was told we had to wait for our server to bring it and the person wouldn't just give us one or at least try to ask a colleague to hand us one if they could not. Well, that wouldn't have been a problem if our server didn't take another 10 minutes to get to us.
We then finally order a drink and our appetizer before deciding on dinner. We're thinking the drinks will come first, but we then had another long wait... with no water or drinks, and they brought out the appetizer! Sooo, what in the world are we supposed to use to wash this down? Our saliva? I asked them to send it back as we didn't even have water. "Oh we're so sorry. It's coming." They said. It took more time for the drinks to come and then we got our appetizer.
They also put us at a table that was right next to the service station which wouldn't have been a problem until there are up to 7 employees crowding the service section and up on your shoulder. One of them forgot we were even seated there and tripped so hard into my chair, he damn near knocked me out of the chair. That was when I asked for us to be moved because we were tired of feeling crowded. Also if you get wine, it may or may not come out chilled. That isn't an issue if it's a red but I ordered a rosé and in 88 degree weather, you don't want it warm or room temperature. The table next to us got two glasses of the same white wine and one was cold and the other wasn't chilled at all. Busboys carry trays so closely over people's heads that I thought they would drop something on a guest if the guest moved wrong.
Even getting drinks at the bar is a hassle. We were told that we had to order before heading to the bar because they didn't have a bartender. We preceded to order and then head out. 30 minutes later and we left because the drinks never came. All we got was an apology but what's the point of an apology if the establishment does nothing to correct it?
I just feel like the staff needs a lot more training. I was so disappointed in the overall dinner because of...
